🇺🇸 Weekly Mountain Adventure | Chasing the Last Snow on Mt. Baldy

It's early autumn—rain down in the city, but snow up on the mountain! ❄️ We couldn't resist heading back to Mt. Baldy, the highest peak around Los Angeles, to catch the last patches of snow before it melted away completely. This time, we took the Register Ridge route up. Let me tell you—this trail hits you with a steep climb right from the start! 🥾💥 Some sections are loose and covered in small rocks, making it pretty challenging. But the reward? You reach Devils Backbone Trail in a relatively short distance, and from there, it's mostly flat or downhill (except for that final push to the summit). Have you ever hiked a trail that surprised you with its difficulty? Share your story! 🗻 Up on the mountain, most of the snow had already melted. Sunny areas were almost clear, while shaded spots held onto remnants of snow. At the summit, a thin layer of snow covered the ground, covered in hikers' footprints 👣. The wind was intense—probably because of the recent snow—and it felt strong enough to sweep you right off your feet! We didn’t stay long. At the top, a friendly American woman warned us not to take the western route—it was slippery, she said, and you’d need microspikes. At the time, I wasn’t sure which path she meant, so we stuck with our original plan and descended via Baldy Bowl Trail. Turns out, that was exactly what she was talking about! 😅 From the summit all the way down to the little green hut, the trail was covered in snow and, in many spots, thin ice formed by countless hikers' steps. It was slick and slow-going. Ever ignored a trail warning and lived to tell the tale? Drop your experience below! 🙈 Lesson learned: when experienced hikers give advice, listen! Without microspikes or a headlamp, our descent was tough. By the time we made it back to the trailhead, darkness had fallen. Just before reaching the parking lot, we turned around for one last look. The city lights of LA were glowing in the distance 🌃. The mountains were wrapped in quiet darkness, while down below, the city's nightlife was just getting started. And so ended our magical early autumn snow hike—already looking forward to the next mountain call! ⛰️💙 #WinterHiking #SnowyPeaks #HikingInSnow #WinterHikePlan #WeekendAdventures #MeasureTheWorldByHiking #LosAngeles #OutdoorHiking #WinterTrails #CaliforniaHiking
