A Day Trip Destination for UVA Students in Charlottesville

✅Monticello is the estate of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States 🇺🇸, and the image on the back of the two-dollar bill. Thomas was also the author of the Declaration of Independence and the founder of the University of Virginia. The estate itself has a living space of over 10,000 square feet, with so much to see and explore inside. ✅There are two types of tickets available: a grounds ticket ($22) and a highlights tour ($42), which can be purchased directly at the ticket office on site. UVA students get in for free, and locals receive a discount; just show your ID. If you forget your ID, you can use an email as proof. The highlight tour includes a 45-minute guided tour inside the house, where you can ask the guide questions – highly recommended! There are also tours like the Slavery at Monticello tour and the Gardens & Grounds tour, both with guides. ✅You’ll need at least half a day to fully enjoy the experience. It’s a good idea to bring some snacks and a water bottle; there are water fountains available. There’s a farm shop on the premises, but the prices are a bit high, and the food isn’t the best. ✅After your visit, I suggest stopping by the gift shop. It’s a pretty unique 🎁 shop, offering seeds from Monticello’s trees and gardens, which could make for meaningful gifts. #ThankfulForFridays #UVA #NorthAmericanLife #Charlottesville #Monticello #ThomasJefferson
