A Day Trip to MOTAT Auckland: Aviation Museum + Mini Train ๐Ÿš‚โœˆ๏ธ

I originally planned to go to the zoo today, but couldnโ€™t find a parking spot at all ๐Ÿ˜…! We ended up driving all the way to the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) โ€” so we just went in, and it turned out to be such a great surprise! Turns out itโ€™s super good value for money: an adult ticket is only NZD 19, and a kidsโ€™ ticket is NZD 10, which covers EVERYTHING ๐ŸŽซ! There are 2 main areas with a total of 8 galleries (might not be 100% accurate), plus the connecting train that even passes by the zoo โ€” how cool is that? 1. First Area: Aviation Gallery (the northern section on the map) โœˆ๏ธ Itโ€™s smaller than the aviation museum in Christchurch, but itโ€™s packed with planes! There are computers with all kinds of aviation knowledge to learn from โ€” super educational ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ. Thereโ€™s even a helicopter model you can simulate flying with, and walkie-talkies outside that let you chat with the ones in the planes โ€” my inner kid was screaming! 2. Second Area: Southern Section ๐Ÿ“ This area has a Communications Exhibition, a Vintage Car Exhibition, a Science Learning Gallery, and a "Get Smarter" Exhibition (their official name!) with old-school items. In the old items section, I found so many nostalgic things that only 80s kids would recognize โ€” like the Motorola "brick" phone and the short-lived MD player ๐Ÿ“ฑ! I learned so much today, especially how to send SOS in Morse code โ€” total win! Next to the Science Gallery, thereโ€™s a separate room where you can experience VR glasses to "fly" over Auckland ๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ. Iโ€™ve tried VR before, but this video is exclusive to MOTAT! I even spotted the seaplane I saw earlier in the Aviation Gallery in the video โ€” so pro tip: visit the Aviation Gallery first, then come here for the VR! The two red phone booths at the entrance of the Communications Exhibition actually work โ€” you can call each other from one to the other ๐Ÿ“ž! Some of the old telephones inside the exhibition work too. There are also vintage typewriters that let you type on a computer screen โ€” you only use the up/down/left/right keys to type 26 English letters, and it even has delete and space functions. So fun and tricky at the same time ๐Ÿ˜‚! #NewZealand #Auckland #AucklandLife #AucklandFamilyFun #MuseumExploration #AucklandTravel #AucklandDaily
