A Foodie Guide for 25Fall Seattle Students 🍽️📚
Having spent almost two years in Seattle, my biggest hobby has been eating around — so here’s my personal food roundup! (Let’s be real — Seattle isn’t a food heaven, but we do have some gems. Rankings based on my own taste!) 1️⃣ Sichuan / Hunan Cuisine ⭐️ Dong Ting Chun (Redmond) — Reliable & flavorful ⭐️ Shao Shan Chong — Especially their stinky tofu 😋 ⭐️ Hong Jiu Jiu — Didn’t love it at first, but now I’m hooked on their intestines and peppercorn fish 🐟 ⭐️ Dan Gui Xuan ⭐️ Shu Fu Yan Yu ⭐️ Chili Master () — Salty but passable ⚠️ Tian Fu Chun Qiu — Used to be okay, but lately tastes like frozen prep meals… no wok hei at all 😔 ⚠️ Sichuan Cuisine — Just… no 🙅♀️ 2️⃣ Hot Pot ⭐️ Qiao Lin / Rong Cheng — My top 2 in Seattle (though as a Sichuan native, I’m still picky!). Qiao Lin sometimes has tripe and preserved veggies in the sauce bar + bubble tofu; Rong Cheng has great lemon chicken feet & a super nice owner! ⭐️ Lao Ma Tou — Sauce bar includes ice jelly! ❄️ ⭐️ Nan Hot Pot — Won’t return… no sauce bar 🙄 ⭐️ Liu Yi Shou — Now all-you-can-eat style ⭕️ Hai Di Lao — Fine but not special ⭕️ Happy Lamb — Same vibe 3️⃣ Korean BBQ ⭐️ Ishoni Yakiniku — Maybe the best in town? 🤔 ⭐️ Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong — Great beef selection 🥩 ⭐️ Namdo BBQ — Fancy vibe, pretty plating ⭐️ Gyuu-Kaku — Consistently good Japanese BBQ ⭐️ BellWether BBQ — Buffet style, decent ⭕️ Niku Feast — Buffet, average meat, sauce bar not super fresh ⭕️ Gilson — Okay, but they have beef intestine ⭕️ Soeal Meet — Just alright ⚠️ Meet Korean BBQ — Overcharges tips secretly + not tasty 👎 4️⃣ Korean Food (Non-BBQ) ⭐️ Paju — Beautiful and delicious 🍶 ⭐️ Daeho Kalbijjim — Braised beef rib stew is aromatic and tender ⭐️ Modoo (all locations) — Dependable comfort food ⭐️ Da Wa — Spicy chicken feet lover’s spot 🐔🔥 ⭐️ Paik’s Noodle — Run by Paik Jong-won (famous Korean chef)! Sweet & sour pork is a win 🍖 ⭕️ Mama’s Kitchen — Fine ⭕️ New Soeal — Strong fermented bean paste smell, but tasty & cheap 5️⃣ Japanese Food ⭐️ Tendon Kohaku — #1 for tempura rice bowls! Book 1 month ahead on Google 🍤📅 ⭐️ Kobuta & Ookami — Curry katsu rice = perfection 🍛 ⭐️ Menya — Amazing dipping noodles & fried chicken ⭐️ Ramen Nori — Solid ramen and sushi ⭕️ Shinya Shokudo — I think it’s okay, but reviews are mixed ⚠️ UW Aburasoba — Not good 😬 Hope this helps you eat well in Seattle! 🎒🍜 What’s on your must-try list?
