A Great Sunday Spot in Frankfurt: Städel Museum 🎨⛪
Sundays in the German village can be really lacking, with all commerce closed and all weekend activities crammed into one day on Saturday, which is particularly maddening. Until one day, I suddenly thought to search for the opening hours of Frankfurt's museums... and immediately unlocked a new continent! It turns out that museums are open on Sundays! It couldn't be more perfect! First stop, Städel Museum. This museum was established as a private foundation according to the will of Frankfurt local merchant and banker Johann Friedrich Städel (1728-1816). Städel initially followed in his father's footsteps in the spice and coffee business, and later, as his business expanded, he ventured into banking, accumulating wealth. His love for art collection is what led to the Städel collection we can enjoy today. Finally being able to return to the museum was truly touching. Especially the Städel collection, which spans 700 years and is richer than I expected. Here, you can find works by Titian, Botticelli, Holbein, Rembrandt, Van Eyck, Courbet, as well as Matisse, Chagall, Renoir, Kandinsky. The museum's thoughtful arrangement includes collections of Frankfurt landscapes painted by various artists. The feeling of gazing at the same landscape through the works of artists across time is particularly wonderful. In addition, using German museums to expand my understanding of German art history has been one of my important goals. At Städel, I saw a large number of works by Max Beckman, which almost shows the transformation of the artist's style at different stages of his creative career due to different experiences and encounters. And I finally remembered a name, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, a painter born in Aschaffenburg who was one of the founders of German Expressionism. 🔖 The museum restaurant has high ceilings and a comfortable environment. When you're tired from wandering, you can sit down for a meal and take a break. The small butter dish has a line of text printed in a circle, which I find quite delightful. These little details are the most pleasing. #Frankfurt #FrankfurtMuseum #MuseumRecommendation
