A Half-Day in Albury: Morning Mist, Sunshine & Historic Streets 🌫️✨
Located about 3.5 hours from Melbourne, this charming town sits right on the border between Victoria and New South Wales. If you’re traveling inland toward Sydney, Albury is a popular pit stop—and we made one, too! With only half a day to explore, we kept it simple but memorable. Here’s a mini itinerary perfect for fellow road-trippers on the move 🚗💨 📍 Mungabareena Reserve Started the morning with a little fishing 🎣—but the real catch was the stunning sunrise weaving through the mist. A serene spot perfect for a walk, some quiet reflection, or just breathing in the calm. Even met a pelican casually hunting for breakfast… who seemed to mock my fish-less efforts 🙃 📍 Albury Botanic Gardens Even in late June, the gardens held traces of autumn, glowing softly under the winter sun 🍂🌞. A sundial from 1850 still stands quietly, basking in the light as time gently passes by. 📍 West Albury Wetlands Followed the river from the gardens to these peaceful wetlands. Though I didn’t spot any pelicans (despite what Xiaohongshu promised!), the water was mirror-still, with dried branches emerging in the low season. Tried my luck fishing again… still no luck 😅 📍 Albury Citywalk As we strolled toward the town center, the vibe shifted from tranquil to vibrant. Beautiful historic European-style buildings line the streets, making it feel like a step back in time. At QEII Square, a lively event was underway—food stalls, music from a live band 🎶, and crowds soaking up the sunshine. It felt like a perfect, simple slice of life. 📍 The Old Bookham Church On our way from Albury to Canberra, we made a spontaneous stop in Bookham. There, we found an old church glowing under the golden sunset, its stone walls etched with time. Tall eucalyptus trees swayed gently in the breeze, as if whispering stories from the past. Later, Google Maps told us it’s also a hotel! 🍽️ Food Highlights 🌀 Thai Lotus – Delicious Thai food that lives up to its Google Maps ratings! Must-tries: Prawn Satay, Pumpkin Curry, and Pad Thai. 🌀 Mr. Benedict – A bustling brunch spot with amazing Chicken & Waffles.
