A Holy Land for Aviation Enthusiasts: The Museum of Flight in Seattle
Seattle, being the home of the Boeing factory, boasts the best aviation museum in the western United States. π And right next to the museum are Boeing's flight - test airport and factory.πΏπ π§In the main exhibition hall, there are dozens of aircraft of various sizes on display. The most eye - catching one is undoubtedly the SR - 71 Blackbird reconnaissance aircraft. π§βοΈ When I first saw it in aviation magazines as a kid, I thought it was like something straight out of alien technology. With its extremely slender fuselage, capable of reaching three times the speed of sound, and equipped with a ramjet variable - cycle engine from the 1960s, even though more than half a century has passed, it still looks incredibly futuristic when you see it in person.πΆβοΈ There's also a MiG - 15 painted in the livery of the People's Liberation Army Air Force with the serial number 079. πΈπ© However, according to records, this isn't the same 079 aircraft that Wang Hai flew during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea. π It just has the same paint job. The explanation plaque under the plane doesn't explain why it's painted this way. π But still, it's a source of great pride to see a fighter jet from our People's Liberation Army Air Force in a far - off foreign land. An outdoor pedestrian overpass connects the main exhibition hall and the outdoor area. πΆ The outdoor area is also well worth a visit, and you can even go inside some of the aircraft. There are planes like the 747, 787, and even a Concorde supersonic airliner parked there. π§βοΈ When I entered the cabin of the Concorde, my first impression was that the windows were extremely small, only about the size of a palm, and the ceiling was quite low, similar to most regional airliners. ππ¨ There's not much to say about the 747 and 787; they're almost the same as the planes we usually fly on. The only difference is that many of the internal seats have been removed, giving you a very Intuitive (Intuitive, which means "intuitive" in Chinese) sense of just how spacious the interior of a twin - aisle airliner actually is. πποΈ πΈAccording to information from encyclopedias, the cabin area of a 787 is over 200 square meters. In addition to these aircraft, there are also workshops from the early days of the Boeing factory, some exquisite wooden aircraft models, and so on. You can easily spend about two hours exploring the place.πΈπ© As for other famous aviation museums in the United States, the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., has the Space Shuttle Discovery, and the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Ohio has the F - 117. And every museum seems to have the Blackbird. π€« πI haven't been to those two yet, but from the descriptions, they might be even better than the one in Seattle. πΈFor aviation enthusiasts, these are absolute must - visit attractions. #Seattle #SeattleTourism #WashingtonState #AviationMuseum
