A New Bakery Adventure in Winnipeg: Hits, Misses & Sweet Surprises

📍 819 Asarget Ave, Winnipeg MB I finally got around to trying that new bakery everyone’s been mentioning! Picked up a little haul: two fancy desserts, an almond croissant, a hazelnut croissant, something I’m calling a “ham danish” (no clue its real name 😂), and a Boston cream croissant. Let’s dive into how each one stacked up! First, the desserts! The purple sweet potato and coconut one sounded dreamy, but wow—it was way too sweet for my taste. Like, sugar rush that hits you in the first bite kind of sweet 😅. But the hazelnut dessert (the one in the second photo!) was a total save. It’s slightly sweet, but in a “I can actually finish this without needing a gallon of water” way. The cream in it is perfect—rich and thick, but not heavy or cloying at all. And they sprinkled crunchy hazelnut bits on top, which adds this lovely crisp texture. I’m already thinking about going back for another—oops 🤤. Next up, the croissants! Let’s start with the almond croissant: the almond flavor is so intense. Like, to the point where it tasted exactly like that cough syrup we all hated as kids (you know the one!) 😬. Not my favorite, sadly. Then there’s the Boston cream croissant. The cream inside has this thick, custard-like texture, but… it’s basically flavorless. And it’s so rich—by the end, I just peeled off the flaky croissant layers and dumped the cream. Such a waste of good pastry! 😒 Now, the “ham danish” (again, I made that name up—sorry not sorry). This one was a winner! It’s salty and savory, with just the right amount of flakiness in the pastry. It’d make the perfect breakfast—quick, filling, and not too heavy. Definitely grabbing this again next time 👍. The hazelnut croissant, though? Meh. The hazelnut filling is super sparse—nowhere near as generous as the ones at Le Croissant. I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing that one 😕. All in all, I got 4 items, and the total came out to $26. Not the cheapest, but not totally overpriced either—especially for the ham danish and hazelnut dessert! #Winnipeg #WinnipegFood #Cafe #Bakery #DessertLover
