A New Orleans Trip for Die-Hard Cajun Cuisine Lovers
Background: Both of us are huge fans of spicy food. We tried Hot N Juicy for the first time in Orlando by chance, and have been obsessed with Cajun cuisine ever since. First, let’s share our conclusions:🍭🍭 🍎🍎- For cities (in terms of Cajun food): Orlando > New Orleans > Las Vegas >>>>> Seattle. - For this New Orleans trip specifically: Big EZ > Boil Seafood House >> Hot N Cajun Boil House. Big EZ🏟️ We went straight to the location near the airport right after landing – our first impression was amazing. For the first time, we truly tasted fresh crawfish – the meat was super bouncy, totally different from what we’d had in other cities. 🦐🦐 😼😼At the same time, the price was cheap: crawfish was $6.99 per pound, so we ate to our hearts’ content. The only downside was the sauce – we ordered Viet Cajun flavor, which didn’t live up to our expectations. Boil Seafood House🎉 - Pros: The crawfish were really big. What’s more, you could choose a different flavor and spice level for every pound. 😊😊 We tried Cajun and Garlic Butter – both were great. Also, for those who love spicy food, we recommend going straight for the spiciest level; don’t worry about not being able to handle it. - Cons: The crawfish were slightly less fresh than those at Big EZ, and the price was a bit higher ($7.99 per pound).🍢🍢 Hot N Cajun Boil House🌈🌈 We don’t want to say much about this one – it has no pros. Maybe it would be a decent meal by Seattle’s standards, but compared to other spots in New Orleans, it has no advantages at all. 🎉🎉 🌼The sauce was just “okay”; the crawfish were small and not fresh at all (the meat was mushy). Its price was 1.5 times that of Big EZ, and the shrimp and mussels were almost twice as expensive. The Crawfish Fried Rice was a total letdown too – the crawfish in it was also extremely stale.💕💕 🙉🙉Bonus Spot: B&C Seafood Riverside & Cajun Restaurant We stumbled into this place after visiting Whitney Plantation. 😍😍 We thought it would serve Cajun-style food too, but after ordering, we realized it was just seafood boiled with only salt (no sauce).🍐🎼 - Pros: It’s really cheap – $18 got us 4 pounds of crawfish, and $15 got us 6 crabs (it felt like they were giving it away for free). Takeout seems to be half the price 🙊 🌼🌼 Also, this “no-sauce” way of eating was surprisingly addictive – it lets you taste more of the seafood’s natural flavor. - Cons: The seafood wasn’t fresh; it had been boiled, refrigerated, and stored for a while.🍚🍚 👀We’ve only tried these spots so far, and we’ll be staying in New Orleans for two more days. If you have any good recommendations, feel free to share!❣️❣️ #Cajun #CajunCuisine #NewOrleans #NOLA #Food #Seafood #Seattle #BoiledSeafood
