A Relaxing Solo Trip to Torquay
Finally finished exams and wanted to unwind by the sea—ended up choosing Torquay! Took a 2.5-hour train from Bath and arrived at this lovely coastal town. Stayed at Ferndale Lodge—spacious room and a pretty decent breakfast! Since I had no fixed itinerary, I just went wherever my mood took me. Had lunch at Meat59, then wandered around town. The city center is small (just a few streets), but it has everything you need! Next up—beach time! The harbour was full of yachts, and the beach was lively with people enjoying the sun. I joined in too (why not? 😆), but the tide came in way too fast and swallowed the whole shore! Walked along the coast and found a quiet grassy spot—just sat there watching the waves, so peaceful. For dinner, tried Simla Spice (an Indian restaurant). The Masala was SPICY, but I loved it! The sunset was so beautiful that I impulsively hopped on the Ferris wheel (originally planned for the next day, but YOLO, right?). The ride cost £6 for adults—thought it’d be just one round, but it went three times! I was low-key panicking like, "Wait, why aren’t they letting me off?!" 😂 Highly recommend riding at sunset—the view is unreal! After dark, I tried to get an Uber back… but plot twist: Torquay has no Uber! Ended up taking the wrong bus (oops), but made it back safely. Later found a taxi service called "Price First Taxis"—you can book online, track your ride, and even pre-pay (or pay in the car). Super convenient! The next day, I headed to north Torquay. Wanted to visit the Model Village, but didn’t book ahead and was short on time, so I skipped it. Instead, I took the Babbacombe Cliff Railway (a funicular train) down to Oddicombe Beach. Didn’t go to Babbacombe Beach, but the views were amazing! Final Thoughts? Torquay is a lovely seaside town—chill, scenic, and perfect for a relaxing getaway. Just wear comfy shoes (lots of hills!) and check the tide times if you want beach time. I got super lucky with the weather, too! Would 100% visit again! 🌊☀️ #TravelUK #SoloTrip #Torquay #BritishSeaside #RelaxingWeekend
