A Surprise Journey to El Salvador

I had to renew my visa at the U.S. Embassy in Honduras on Monday and realized I'd dug myself into a bit of a hole, as there were virtually no flights from Costa Rica to Honduras. After searching for a while, I found that I had to either transit through El Salvador or Panama. Since I wanted to head north and not south, I spontaneously decided to spend a weekend in El Salvador. To my surprise, I discovered there's a Surf City here, so I rushed to the beach. The small guesthouse I stayed at was right by the sea. Everyone would wake up at six in the morning to check the waves and decide whether to surf and where to go. Along the coast, you can basically pay with Bitcoin. El Tunco and El Sunzal are relatively developed beaches, but the prices are still very affordable. Recently, they've been developing Punta Roca, which has a Sunset Park, an amusement park donated by China. The pirate ship has a sign in Chinese without any translation, which is quite amusing πŸ˜‚. The rainy season in Central America is no joke; it pours heavily, either all day or all night. A Spanish guy at the hostel was leaving in the afternoon, so despite the heavy rain, he wanted to surf one more time. I thought, why not, let's do it, but it turned out to be impossible to catch a wave. He gave up after 20 minutes, and my coach kept saying at least catch one. I struggled in the water for an hour, tried three times, and didn't get up once, exhausted. So, don't force it when the weather is bad πŸ˜‚. Overall, El Salvador was a pleasant surprise. I walked around in less crowded areas and felt very safe. People would greet you on the street, all warm and friendly. This trip was too short and too spontaneous; I will definitely come back. Highly recommended! #Travel #SoloTravel #CentralAmerica #ElSalvador #Surfing
