A traditional and creative Thai restaurant

📍 3031 Merchant Wy unit 117, Langford, BC V9B 3Y7 This Thai restaurant in Langford blends traditional and creative dishes—it’s not a big spot from the outside, but there are plenty of seats inside, and they’re not cramped at all. Heads up though: during peak hours, servers are totally stretched thin—you’ll wait ages to flag someone down! 😼💹 ✅ A2 Pla Muug Tod 💰18 Crispy squid—they fry the batter so thoroughly it’s shatteringly crisp, while the squid inside stays tender but chewy. It comes with veggies like zucchini and bell peppers, and they did a great job draining the oil—no gross greasy aftertaste at all. The seasoning itself is cumin salt, and there’s Thai sweet chili sauce for dipping—either way, it’s delicious! 🩑 ✅ A5 Peeg Gai Tod 💰18.5 Crispy chicken wings—the skin is super crunchy, a little greasy but still no oily aftertaste. The chicken inside is plump and tender, almost like KFC’s original recipe! The dip is honey sauce, which I’m not into—it just makes it greasier. A sweet-sour or spicy-sour dip would’ve been way better. 🍗 ✅ S4 Tom Kah Goong 💰18.5 Creamy coconut prawn soup—classic Thai flavors here: spicy, sour, salty, and umami, bold and super appetizing. The coconut and cream taste is rich but not heavy, and the mushrooms mixed in cut through the saltiness. The prawns are frozen, though—their texture is a bit stiff, not as bouncy as fresh ones. Still, sipping this hot, flavorful soup is so comforting! đŸ„Ł ✅ N3 Guay Teow Kee Mao 💰16.5 Drunken noodles (also called Thai stir-fried wide rice noodles)—the seasoning is salty with a hint of sweet, and the egg bits stuck to the noodles smell amazing. The wide noodles are chewy, and it tastes like the food I had as a kid! There are some veggies mixed in too, which is nice. 🍜 ❌ D5 Lychee Sticky Rice 💰10 Lychee sticky rice—total letdown. The lychee is canned and cloyingly sweet, and even though the coconut sticky rice is seasoned the same as mango sticky rice, the combo is just weird. At least there isn’t much lychee—I focused on the rice, which was a small consolation for my mango sticky rice cravings. đŸ„âŒ 🆗 D1 Gluay Tod & Gelato 💰9 Fried banana with vanilla gelato—bananas can taste a bit astringent raw, but frying them brings out the sweetness and gets rid of that astringency. The vanilla gelato itself is fine, but why did they drizzle honey on top? Coconut flakes would’ve been better— the honey makes it way too sweet and cloying. Just okay. 🍌🍩 #ThaiFood #ThaiRestaurant #BaanThai #Canada #CanadaFood #VancouverIsland #Victoria #Foodie #LifeSnippets #FoodTour #MyDailyLife #RestaurantRecommendation #HiddenGemRestaurant #GlobalFoodSquad #FoodCheckIn #SoloDining #EatsAndTreats
