A Weekend Trip to Trujillo

Last weekend, I took my wife to Trujillo, a charming medieval town in western Spain’s Extremadura region. I tried searching for travel tips on Xiaohongshu but found nothing—so here’s my take to fill the gap! 📍 Location & Travel 🚗 Trujillo is about 250 km from Madrid (~2.5 hours via the A5 highway). It’s a well-preserved medieval town with narrow alleys leading to the stunning Plaza Mayor. You can explore the whole town in just 1.5 hours—perfect for a relaxed getaway! 🏰 Historical Highlight ⚔️ The town is famous as the birthplace of Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish conquistador who conquered the Inca Empire. No wonder there’s also a Trujillo in Peru! His statue stands proudly in the main square, backed by the town’s grandest church. Food Adventures 🍽️ 1. El 7 De Sillerias (Near Plaza Mayor) We tried: Jamon Joselito Gran Reserva (½ ración) 🐖 – A must-try Iberian ham! Surtido de Queso (½ ración) 🧀 – A local cheese platter (Trujillo hosts a Cheese Fair in May with over 200 varieties!). Ensalada de la Casa (½ ración) 🥗 – A delicious sweet-and-sour salad I still can’t replicate at home. Presa de Joselito al punto del chef – Perfectly cooked pork with zero gaminess (wife-approved!). Mollejas de vacuno al carbón – Braised beef in rich sauce (a bit too heavy for me). 💶 Total: €92 (with water) 2. Restaurante Alberca (Michelin-recommended, deeper in town) 🍾 They offer three tasting menus: Brasa Humo Ceniza (the most extensive, €70/person) We chose Ceniza—9 courses + 2 desserts! A creative, flavor-packed experience. Bread was included, and we stuck with water. 💶 Total: €142 Bonus Stop: Bodega Habla 🍷 Just 10 km from town, this modern winery offers tours (€30/person), including: History of the winery Facility visit Wine tasting A great add-on to the trip! Final Thoughts 💭 Trujillo is a hidden gem—history, great food, and nearby wine country. If you’re in western Spain, don’t miss it! #TravelCommunity#Trujillo
