Alaska Winter Travel Diary — Food Edition

Alaska Winter Travel Diary — Food Edition 🍽️❄️ Thai House: The BBQ and curry were delicious, and the appetizers were huge! 🍛✨ (Lemongrass, you should take notes 😉) The Crepery: Both the Creme Brûlée and smoked salmon crepes were tasty—sweet and savory done right! 😋🥞 But the kitchen smoke smell in the shop was retty strong… 🏭👃 Chowder House: Smoked salmon chowder — warm and comforting! 🥣❤️ Ajimi: (No details given, but it was visited!) Bahn Thai: Flavor was okay, but portions were small 🥘. The avocado green curry wasn’t really worth ordering (though maybe I’m the only one who tried it 🥑🤷‍♀️). Lemongrass Thai: Highly rated, but I thought it was just average — and overpriced! 💸 Two of us spent around $100 (ordered our usual amount). The best item was actually the Thai iced green tea 🍵—refreshing and not too sweet, and I haven’t seen it anywhere else! Chicken Town: Our Christmas Eve pick 🎄🍗 🚫 Soba — Definitely the biggest disappointment in Fairbanks 😡: Terrible food, zero service, super low value 💥. Appetizer: Raci — The shrimp tails tasted like Costco frozen shrimp thawed and left out overnight, then barely warmed up 🦐❄️… served with a hint of garlic water and super fishy 🤢. I could’ve made better shrimp at home! Braised Pork & Grilled Salmon: The pork was tender but totally bland 🐷😐. The salmon was lukewarm and just… tasted like fish — not fresh, not flavorful 🐟. The three sauces on the side didn’t help much. Honey Cake: The best part of the meal 🍯🍰, but still like an old-school sticky-sweet pastry… a bit too sweet after a few bites. No service — waited forever! Only two staff: one woman who didn’t seem comfortable with English, so everything depended on one man 🧍‍♂️💼. Took almost an hour from sitting down to getting our appetizer ⏳😤. $100 for two, left feeling totally defeated 💸😔. Every meal after this, we kept complaining about Soba 😅👎 🚫 Noodle House Shouldn’t have trusted this Asian restaurant — the worst Thai food I’ve ever had 🍜🚫. It’s not the top disappointment only because on Christmas Eve, barely anything was open… so can’t complain too much. Bad food is better than no food, right? 😅 Thai tea was awful — wy too sweet, with a weird mixed sweetness 🧋🚫. Drunken noodles were salty and gross, and the noodles were thick and mushy — nothing like any I’ve had before 🍝👎. #AlaskaFood#FairbanksEats#TravelFoodDiary#WinterTravel#EatLocal #FoodReview
