🌏 Almaty | 10-Hour Layover: Ultimate One-Day Itinerary 🇰🇿

Flying with Air Astana via Almaty to Georgia, with a 10-hour layover in between. I personally tested that it’s possible to leave the airport for a quick tour (though there’s a 10% chance they might not let you exit). 🪪 Visa: Kazakhstan offers visa-free entry for Chinese passport holders. ✈️ Exit procedure: Do not go through the Transfer channel. Head directly to Passport Control, and you don’t need to show your second flight ticket. 📱 SIM Card: Buy a 1-day data card in advance on Taobao. I got one for 14.5 RMB with 1GB data, which is more than enough. If you’re lazy, you can just use international roaming. 💰 Currency exchange: Bring 100-200 RMB to exchange at the airport counter. When I went, the exchange rate was around 1 RMB = 76-77 KZT. Most places for dining, taxis, and tickets accept cards, so exchanging 100-200 RMB is sufficient (honestly, I think you might not even need to exchange). 🚕 Transportation: Download the Yandex Go app in advance and link your credit card (you’ll need a VPN to bind a Chinese card). 🍜 Dining: There are many eateries near the Green Bazaar. I saw recommendations for Besh Kazan on Xiaohongshu, which is also near the Green Bazaar. The food was great! But ordering was a bit tricky due to language barriers—staff spoke neither English nor Chinese, so we relied on gestures and translation apps. 🗺️ Ultimate route: National Musical Instruments Museum → Ascension Cathedral & Panfilov Guardsmen Park → Green Bazaar → Central Mosque → Kazakhstan Museum of Arts → Abay Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater → Kok Tobe Hill Gondola (go for sunset) → Airport 🗺️ Relaxed route: Airport → National Musical Instruments Museum → Ascension Cathedral & Panfilov Guardsmen Park → Green Bazaar → Central Mosque → Airport (For this route, you only need taxis for the airport round trip; other spots are walkable.) P.S. A quick note: Air Astana’s air conditioning is extremely cold. If you’re sensitive to cold, bring an extra layer of clothing. #TravelTheWorld #SlowTravel #CentralAsiaTravel #KazakhstanTourism #DragonBoatFestivalTrip #CheckInWorldwide #StudentTravel #LesserKnownCulturalSpots #AlmatyTravel #GeorgiaTravel
