Zelyony (Green) Bazaar is located a short walk from Panfilov Park. The building, although large, is relatively unassuming from the exterior, it is only when you enter that you get a real sense of what this amazing bazaar is all about. The main building houses many of the food stalls. There are stalls selling all manner of food products and the different categories of food are in sections. There are dried fruit and nut stalls, spices, fresh fruit drinks, cheese, sushi, Chinese etc. The list goes on and on. Towards the rear of this building is an area dedicated to meat. It is quite the eye opener. The various stalls have basic images depicting what animal meat is being sold. The main building is connected with staircases and alleyways with lots more stalls. There is quite honestly a stall for everything. The footprint of the bazaar is really quite large. You can happily meander your way through the market, going from clothing to hardware to flowers and then fruit and vegetables, among many other thing. You get the idea, there’s always something to catch your eye and although relatively busy when I visited, it wasn’t overcrowded. The market stall holders were all very friendly. A word of caution, some of the stalls are over priced but nevertheless this is an experience I would highly recommend and provides a wonderful insight to some of Kazakhstans

This place was amazing. Ground floor full of fresh fruits, everyday foods and whatever you want you can find here. The price cheaper compare to mini market. On the Second Floor a lot of clothes, jewellery, souvenirs, and etc but the price not cheap. The other side of building you can find meat markets. It's very huge and I think this is fresh meat farm. The ground floor full with shoes and bag stalls. The price very expensive. But you can find many types or brand. If you are foreigner they will cut you down. Only local people can bargain them. At outside perimeter building you can find many stalls that sell everything including hardware, house item and product. The price not very good for foreigners. I would like to find local products with reasonable price but in this area they will increase the price if you can't speak their language. Not every item had price tag. Most of the item look like imported from China.

A typical shopping area with everything available under one roof. While the prices were competitive, the overall experience was not that great. Language and communication is a huge barrier here. Add a hint of r@cism to it all. They are very strict with their timings and shutters are down quite early in the evening by 5pm. Even if they are simply present at the stalls/stores they would rather scroll on their phone than encourage customers to buy from them, they will go a step ahead and "Shoo" you away from them with a very dismissive body language. Did manage to find some good Shop keepers who were open to communicate with the help of Google translate. Managed to buy some souvenirs here. Also, horse milk and local Khazakh home made cheeses are popular here, so are the dry fruit options.

Amazing market showcasing Kazakh local culture and food. You can buy fresh vegetables, local dairy products, all kind of fresh cut meat n chicken, variety of fruits and dry fruits. Make sure you go empty stomach as you are going to taste hell lot of dry fruits and snackies feom each vendor, they love feeding and they are very friendly welcomes every tourist with lots of love and warmth. Best time to go early morning during the weekdays. Weekends are crowded and lot of tourists. Best to try the chocolate peacans and the local dairy products. They also have another department where there lot of vendors for winter clothes, toys, swim wears, souvenirs shops and many more... Its place you will find all shopping items and souvenirs. Bargain well... Hope you are a good negotiator 😜

We bought most of our souvenirs here. Magnet, keychain, plate souvenir, tasbih, kopiah, sejadah, wall decor, handbags, kazakh clothes, fruit gummy, dried fruits, nuts, saffron (saffron & nuts are way cheaper here compared to our country, Malaysia), spices, all kinds of tea leaves. There is atm at the entrance. You can bargain price with the sellers. We could spend the whole day here. Too many things to see around and try. We even tried some instant hot drinks from the lady pushing shopping cart 🛒 We used cash to shop around here. And there were no weird smelly smell at all in the bazaar. I would say some negative experience is that there were no seat at all for us to take a rest. And one of the seller gave us change with old money that non of other seller would accept.

This is a very nice local market or Bazar as it is called in Almaty. The Bazar is centrally located. We had visited the ascension church (Zenkov's Cathedral) and this market is in 5 min walk from there. It has a variety of cheese, meats, spices, pickles, clothes, jackets, shoes, dry fruits, bags etc. The vibe of this place is amazing. In general whatever you buy, you need to negotiate. The prices of dry fruits were also good, though you need to negotiate. I must say the quality of dried fruits appeared good. We tasted and bought almonds and pecan nuts. Hopefully the quality they gave for the tasting will be the same as what they sold us(we update the review after consuming 😊). Overall this is a must visit place if you are in AlMaty centre. We loved it.
