Amankora Thimphu: A 20-Year-Old Escape in Bhutan’s Capital ✨

1. Bhutan’s Amankora comprises five lodges, stretching eastward from Paro to Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey, and Bumthang. 🗺️ Each sits in a distinct valley, weaving luxury into Bhutan’s rugged landscapes—perfect for a journey with no (backtracking). 2. For trips of 7 nights or less, stick to the first three lodges. 🏨 Eight nights or more? Include all five! From Bumthang, a short domestic flight returns you to Paro—skip it, and you’ll face an 8+ hour road trip. 🛩️ 3. My 7-night itinerary squeezed four lodges, with some backtracking. ⏳ Early 7 AM arrival and 4:30 PM departure on the last day gave extra time, making the rush manageable—though not ideal for most. 4. Day one: Paro to Thimphu felt like Shangri-La 20 years ago—charming but simple. 😂 Then Amankora Thimphu appeared: a hillside retreat wrapped in coniferous forests, timeless despite being nearly 20 years old. Inside? A world apart from the town below. 5. Yet this lodge felt the “least Aman-like” compared to the others, which oozed more ambiance. 😌 Perks included sessions with a fortune-teller and meetings with a revered lama—unique and memorable. (Sadly), the food here was my least favorite. 😕 6. Amankora Thimphu isn’t just accommodation; it’s a gateway to Bhutan’s rhythm, blending seclusion with cultural touches. For a taste of luxury amid Himalayan calm, it’s a solid start—even if the next lodges steal the spotlight. ✨ #Bhutan #Amankora #LuxuryTravel #BhutanLodges #AmanResorts #TravelBhutan #ThimphuEscapes
