American Cultural Architecture in Charlotte | Mario Botta’s Work
The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art 🌟Botta began his career during the heyday of Modernism, renowned for his extensive use of stone and incredible graphic expression. He also has another significant, yet less mentioned, achievement: he is the founder of the European Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio. 🌟Located in the heart of Charlotte, a city that has undergone rapid urban development in recent years, the museum showcases the collection of Andreas Bechtler, including works by important artists such as Tinguely, Niki de Saint Phalle, Picasso, Giacometti, Matisse, Miró, Degas, Warhol, Le Corbusier, Léger, and others. 🌟The interior of this cubic building is hollow, providing an outdoor public courtyard, with its rear outlined by plastic volumes. This four-story building features a towering glass atrium that runs through the core of the museum and scatters natural light throughout the building via an arching skylight system. 🌟Despite its modest size, the interaction between solids and voids creates a tremendous plastic force. It can be defined as an architectural sculpture, where the voids signify a new urban space, sheltered by the fourth-floor galleries extending from the building’s core and supported by a massive single pillar rising from the square below. 🌟The choice of materials for the interior spaces and the red terracotta panels on the facade bring a rigorous yet elegant minimalist style to the museum. 🌟Building Area: 2,490 square meters Completion Date: 2009 ©️Joel Lassiter, Enrico Cano #ArchitecturalArt #ArchitecturalDesignInspiration #MarioBotta #mariobotta #AmericanArchitecture #NorthCarolina #MustVisitMuseum #MasterArchitect #Architecture #WorthCollecting
