American Southern Fried Chicken Is the Real Fried Chicken

There’s a small two-location chain called The Social in Philadelphia’s suburbs, and their Southern cuisine is absolutely fantastic! If you happen to be in the western suburbs, swing by their Downingtown or West Chester locations—you won’t regret it. We visited the West Chester spot: parking in the small town is a bit tricky (you’ll need to circle around to find street parking), but it’s nice to wander and shop around the area after your meal. The restaurant isn’t crowded on weekend afternoons either—reservations aren’t needed unless you’re in a large group. Every dish here comes in huge portions—on average, one dish per person is more than enough, and you’ll still have leftovers to take home. The absolute must-tries are the 🦞 Jambalaya and 🐔 Chicken & Waffles: - The jambalaya is packed with crawfish and tender meat, mixed with fluffy rice—each bite is rich, savory, and full of bold Cajun flavors. It’s hearty enough to satisfy even the biggest appetite. - The fried chicken is juicy and tender on the inside, with a crispy, well-seasoned crust that’s not too thick. Served with creamy mashed potatoes and sweet, fluffy waffles—yes, they’re total carb bombs 💣, but you won’t want to skip them. The combination of salty chicken and sweet waffles (drizzle a little maple syrup if you like!) is pure comfort food magic. Eating here brought back memories of a tiny restaurant we visited during a trip to New Orleans—same warm, homey Southern vibes and bold, authentic flavors that make you want to lick your plate clean. 📍 The Social 117 E Gay St, West Chester, PA 19380 #PhiladelphiaLife #PhiladelphiaFood #PhiladelphiaFoodTour #NoOneCanResistFriedChicken #PhiladelphiaFriedChicken #PhiladelphiaPA #PennsylvaniaSmallTown #PennsylvaniaPittsburghTravel
