Austin Shooting Experience

If you’re traveling to the U.S., visiting a shooting range is practically a rite of passage — and yes, it’s totally accessible even on a Chinese passport! 😎 I finally checked this off my bucket list when I brought my family to experience it firsthand. We chose The Range at Austin, one of the most well-known and professional ranges in the area. Firearm laws in Texas are relatively relaxed, and the process was smooth and traveler-friendly. ✅ Entry & Firearm Rental Requirements Check-in: Only my U.S. driver’s license was checked for entry. Gun Rental: Required two forms of ID — I used my driver’s license + a companion’s passport. No Local ID? No problem — a passport from any member of your group can help you rent. ⏳ Wait Time & Vibe Even on a Friday noon, it was busy! We waited about 1 hour. Many locals bring their own guns and ammo — you can feel the serious but friendly Texas gun culture. Staff are super kind and professional — likely retired veterans. They patiently taught me how to handle and shoot, moved a stool for me, and even checked in to make sure we had a great time. 🔫 Step-by-Step Process Check-in at the front desk — use wait time to browse available guns. Select firearms + ammo, pay, receive a safety demo, and pick your target paper. Head into your lane and start shooting! 💡 Pro tip: Order extra ammo — you’ll run out faster than you think! 💵 Pricing Overview (See Fig. 3 for full menu) Lane Fee: $25 (first shooter) + $10 per additional person Hearing & Eye Protection: $7 per person My Total Bill (last image): ~$120 for 2 guns + ammo + 3 people 🎯 Personal Experience & Tips So much fun — a powerful and unique experience! Very loud — even with ear protection. We left after a few boxes of ammo. Rifle too heavy? Ask staff for a stool — you can shoot seated. Wear long sleeves — hot shell casings can bounce and cause minor burns. 📌 Final Thoughts Whether you're curious about guns or just want a truly American adventure — this is it. Safe, well-supervised, and seriously cool. Just bring your ID, a brave heart, and maybe an extra T-shirt to remember the day. 😉 #US #Austin #Texas
