Austrian Emperors' Favorite Restaurant, 🔥 Popular for 300 Years
In the northeast of Vienna, near the border with Slovakia,🍂 the Morava River has single-handedly nurtured the fertile Marchfeld region, which became one of the exclusive granaries for the Austrian royal family. Leveraging this natural advantage, the restaurant Marchfelderhof was established. Both Napoleon and Austrian Emperor Franz visited this place. In the late 20th century, under the leadership of owner Bocek, it became a representative of the maximalist antique art restaurant in 🇦🇹, with a very atmospheric ambiance.❗❗❗❗ I’ve longed to visit this place for a long time, but I’ve never made it because everyone I know told me that it’s more convenient to drive or take a taxi.🔥 However, I recently discovered that it’s also possible to get there by public transport. About the Dishes:🍂 Marchfeld is famous for its asparagus, which is protected by the EU agricultural trademark. I was fortunate to book a reservation at the restaurant during the asparagus season (April to June) and had the chance to taste the sweet and juicy asparagus of noble Austrian quality. The menu offers a 4-course asparagus set and various dishes made with asparagus, all of which were very impressive. We ordered the set and the asparagus platter. ✅ The first three courses of the set were quite good, with the asparagus being sweet and juicy. ✅ The asparagus platter was delicious, with asparagus served with five different sauces. The asparagus risotto was the most delicious I’ve ever tasted. ⏰ The last dessert of the set might feel a bit strange in taste and might not be very familiar. 🍴 Restaurant Ambiance: The restaurant is like a museum, with each hall, room, and even the restrooms being very distinctive. Antique artworks cover the ceilings and walls. The restaurant also has themed tables, and we were lucky enough to sit at the commemorative table of the late owner Bocek. If it’s a birthday or celebration, there will be a violinist or accordion player who will come to your table. There’s also a palm reader available (for a fee). 💁 Service Quality: The waitstaff are very polite. However, the waiting time is quite long, whether it’s for seating, ordering, or serving the dishes. The drinks are served slightly faster. But since there’s so much to see in the restaurant, the waiting time can be used for taking photos. There’s also a cloakroom with dedicated service. 💰 Dish Prices: I would only recommend this place for those who have a budget of 40-60 EUR per person for a meal. 🚌 Public Transport: Take the S1 or Rex1 train from Vienna Hauptbahnhof to Deutsch Wagram station, then walk for 8 minutes. The railway from Vienna is also the first steam train line in Austrian history: the Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn. Built in 1837, it was later extended to the Czech border. Some of the historical relics and facilities are listed as cultural heritage sites and are protected.
