Autumn on the Appalachian Trail 🍂🥾
This spring, I hiked a section of the Appalachian Trail near Bears Den starting from the same parking lot in Bluemont. This time, I returned for a stunning 20km autumn hike with over 900 meters of elevation gain. The way back includes a long, steady uphill stretch — so bring some endurance (and maybe extra snacks! 😉). It’s only about an hour’s drive from DC with no traffic 🚗💨. You can find the route on AllTrails: search for “Appalachian Trail to Ridge to River Trail”. Fun fact: the trail crosses the state line — half in Virginia, half in West Virginia — and you’ll even pass a boundary marker! 🪙 Along the way, I spotted wild mushrooms thriving after the recent hurricanes 🍄, a curious Eastern Box Turtle 🐢, and just the beginning of fall colors painting the forest. 🍁✨ If you’re up for a challenge with big rewards in views and vibes, this one’s for you! #DMVHikes #HikeDMV #AppalachianTrail #FallHiking #VirginiaHiking #WestVirginia #NatureWalks #AutumnVibes
