Avenue of the Giants – California’s Majestic Redwood Highway 🌲🛣️✨

I drove 14 hours round-trip to Northern California just to chase some big footprints—and it was totally worth it! On the way to and from Eureka, I took the scenic Avenue of the Giants—a 31-mile stretch from Phillipsville in the south to Pepperwood in the north, completely enveloped by towering ancient redwoods. 🚗💨 This route runs parallel to Highway 101 and doesn’t add much extra time, but it’s packed with sights and stops. On weekends, the road is quiet—perfect for slow drives and spontaneous pull-offs! 🐻 1-3 Grandfather Tree Over 1,800 years old—alive since the Three Kingdoms period! 🌳⏳ Surrounded by colorful wooden carvings, it was one of the most charming spots along the way. 🔮 4-5 Confusion Hill The quirkiest attraction! Features: • Gravity House (5 adults / 4 kids) 🤹♂️ • Mountain Train Ride (30-min round trip, 10 adults / 7.50 kids) 🚂 • A creepy abandoned redwood shoe house (low-key horror vibes 👻) • Picnic areas 🧺 Outside stands a 13-meter-tall redwood totem pole—the world’s tallest hand-carved totem on its original site! 🪵🎨 🌲 6 Sunbeams Through the Redwoods Occasional rays of sunlight piercing through the giant trees—pure magic! ☀️💫 🕳️ 7 Eternal Tree House (top left) A pitch-black tree hollow cabin—took me 5 minutes to muster courage, then I stayed inside for 2 seconds! 😅 ⚡️ 8 Immortal Tree (bottom left) The Harry Potter of ancient trees! ☠️🌳 Survived a lightning strike to its crown, loggers’ axes, a 1908 forest fire, and a Christmas flood in 1964 that submerged its trunk. Talk about resilience! ☕️ Black Oak Coffee Roasters in Ukiah I rarely drink coffee, but this road trip demanded it! Their Americano kept me awake for 200 miles… and then all night 😳☕️ But hey—it was delicious! 🚗 Missed This Time: Drive-Thru Tree Park in Leggett ($15 to drive through a hollowed redwood!). This whirlwind trip reminded me that the best surprises are often found along the way—already dreaming of the next adventure! 🌈🧳 Have you driven the Avenue of the Giants or explored Northern California’s redwood forests?
