🍜 Baltimore · Water Song Yunnan Restaurant | A Delicious Comeback!
It was amazing when it first opened—after all, it’s not easy to find Yunnan cuisine in Baltimore! Though its reputation dipped for a while, recent buzz and two delivery lunch boxes to JHU convinced us to dine in again. The experience was pretty good! 👍 📍 *21 E Cross St, Baltimore, MD 21230* 🅿️ Heads up: Parking is tough! Went on a weekend off-peak hour, and the bar next door was packed with people loudly watching the Ravens game—quite a vibe though! 🏈 🍽️ Dish Reviews 1️⃣ Stir-Fry Rice Cakes (Er Kuai) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Like savory stir-fried rice cakes with a rich sauce, but even softer and more flavorful! The veggies were great too—we finished it instantly! 2️⃣ Zhanyi Spicy Chicken ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Strong fermented black bean flavor, boneless chicken fried to spicy perfection! Huge portion, very bold taste. 🐔 (JHU folks can try the lunch box version first~) 3️⃣ Chef’s Special Beef (Forgot the Name) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Intensely savory stir-fried beef with a bit of tendon—super tender and flavorful! Only downside: smaller portion compared to the chicken. 4️⃣ Wrapped Grilled Tofu ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Loved the texture—soft like Japanese tofu, and the dipping sauce gave a “stinky tofu vibe” but milder lol~ 5️⃣ Kunming Fried Potatoes ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A classic here! This time the potatoes weren’t crispy but soft and hearty. Needed extra dipping sauce, but potato lovers won’t mind! 🥔 6️⃣ Small Pot Rice Noodles ⭐⭐⭐ The letdown: The noodles were okay, but the broth lacked depth and flavor… (How can a Yunnan spot mess up rice noodles?!) 🌸 Hidden Gem Fresh Flower Pastry highly recommended! Totally different from store-bought versions. Even after freezing and reheating in an air fryer, it stays crispy—but it’s often sold out! Verdict: Worth revisiting—skip the noodles, go for the rice cakes and spicy chicken! #BaltimoreEats #DMVFood #DMVDining #FoodieCheckIn
