When it first opened, Water Song was a revelation – a Yunnan restaurant in Baltimore?! 😲 But over time, its reputation dipped, and I hadn’t been back in ages. Recently, though, I’ve heard good things again – plus they’ve started offering lunch boxes delivered to JHU πŸŽ’πŸ“¦! So I gave their dine-in another try, and overall, it was a positive experience! πŸ“ Address: 21 E Cross St, Baltimore, MD 21230 Let’s be real – parking here is a pain πŸš—πŸ’’. I went on a weekend (off-peak hours), and the bar next door was packed with Ravens fans cheering loudly πŸˆπŸ”Š – kind of fun, actually! 🍲 Stir-Fried Er Kuai (Rice Cakes) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So good! Think savory, saucy, chewy stir-fried rice cakes – super soft and fully infused with flavor. The veggies in it were delicious too. We finished the whole plate! 🍽️ 🌢️ Zhanyi Spicy Chicken ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Strong fermented bean flavor – boneless chicken, deep-fried till crispy πŸ—, super fragrant and SPICY. Huge portion, very bold seasoning. JHU folks – try their lunch box version first! πŸ‚ Chefβ€˜s Special Beef (Name Forgotten) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A recent special – deeply braised beef with a rich sauce and a bit of tendon. Extremely tender and flavorful! Smaller portion compared to the chicken though. 🧈 Bao Shao Tofu (Baked Tofu) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I loved the texture! Soft like Japanese tofu, dipped in a fermented bean sauce that kinda reminds you of stinky tofu πŸ˜†πŸ§€ πŸ₯” Kunming Fried Potatoes ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A classic here – though this time the potatoes weren’t crispy, just soft and not very seasoned. You gotta eat them with the sauce. Still – no problem for a potato lover like me! 🍜 Small Pot Rice Noodles ⭐⭐⭐ For a Yunnan restaurant, the noodles are surprisingly weak. The texture was okay, but zero flavor absorption, and the broth was bland πŸ˜•β€¦ 🌸 Bonus: Their fresh flower cakes are a must-try! Totally different from store-bought versions. Even after freezing and reheating in the air fryer, they stay delicious – but they often sell out! πŸ’¬ Verdict: Definitely worth revisiting!
