Baltimore Food Review Β· Water Song Yunnan Cuisine ππΊ
When it first opened, Water Song was a revelation β a Yunnan restaurant in Baltimore?! π² But over time, its reputation dipped, and I hadnβt been back in ages. Recently, though, Iβve heard good things again β plus theyβve started offering lunch boxes delivered to JHU ππ¦! So I gave their dine-in another try, and overall, it was a positive experience! π Address: 21 E Cross St, Baltimore, MD 21230 Letβs be real β parking here is a pain ππ’. I went on a weekend (off-peak hours), and the bar next door was packed with Ravens fans cheering loudly ππ β kind of fun, actually! π² Stir-Fried Er Kuai (Rice Cakes) βββββ So good! Think savory, saucy, chewy stir-fried rice cakes β super soft and fully infused with flavor. The veggies in it were delicious too. We finished the whole plate! π½οΈ πΆοΈ Zhanyi Spicy Chicken βββββ Strong fermented bean flavor β boneless chicken, deep-fried till crispy π, super fragrant and SPICY. Huge portion, very bold seasoning. JHU folks β try their lunch box version first! π Chefβs Special Beef (Name Forgotten) βββββ A recent special β deeply braised beef with a rich sauce and a bit of tendon. Extremely tender and flavorful! Smaller portion compared to the chicken though. π§ Bao Shao Tofu (Baked Tofu) ββββ I loved the texture! Soft like Japanese tofu, dipped in a fermented bean sauce that kinda reminds you of stinky tofu ππ§ π₯ Kunming Fried Potatoes ββββ A classic here β though this time the potatoes werenβt crispy, just soft and not very seasoned. You gotta eat them with the sauce. Still β no problem for a potato lover like me! π Small Pot Rice Noodles βββ For a Yunnan restaurant, the noodles are surprisingly weak. The texture was okay, but zero flavor absorption, and the broth was bland πβ¦ πΈ Bonus: Their fresh flower cakes are a must-try! Totally different from store-bought versions. Even after freezing and reheating in the air fryer, they stay delicious β but they often sell out! π¬ Verdict: Definitely worth revisiting! Not every dish is a hit, but the best ones make it worth the trip. #BaltimoreEats #DMVfood #YunnanCuisine #WaterSong #JHUeats #FoodReview #AsianCuisine
