Barcelona's Hidden Gem | Casa Vicens ✅🌼
Visiting Barcelona isn't just about the Gaudi trilogy; Gaudi's first work—Casa Vicens—is the real hidden treasure. An ideal home is a place, big or small, Where we enrich and expand it day by day Until it transforms into the palace of our hearts. —Gaudi, "La Casa Pairal" Built between 1883 and 1885, Casa Vicens is Gaudi's first work. Before 2014, it was a private residence. After being acquired, it underwent a series of renovations and opened as a museum to the public in November 2017. Originally a summer residence for the Vicens family, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. The entire building is filled with a vacation ⛱️ atmosphere. You can feel the rich Oriental charm that inspired Gaudi and is a neo-Mudejar architectural masterpiece 🎐. The number of visitors here is much less than at La Pedrera and Casa Batlló. Both the first and second floors have balconies where you can sit and rest, feeling the vacation vibe that the Vicens family once enjoyed 🍹. The building's façade is reminiscent of Monument Valley to many, with rough red bricks, ironwork, glazed tiles, and the iconic mosaic tiles. Gaudi combined many elements to create a masterpiece that integrates neo-Mudejar, Oriental exoticism, and neoclassicism. The pavilion on the first floor that we see today is not the original from Gaudi's time. In 1925, Dr. Jover, the owner of Casa Vicens at the time, decided to renovate the house. He enclosed the exotic guest pavilion, removed the retro Renaissance-style fountain, and transformed the entire area into an indoor compartment with floor-to-ceiling windows. It was during the overall restoration before opening to the public that the decision was made to restore the original design. This is indeed a must-visit spot in Barcelona. I bought two of those 🌼 tile coasters in the gift shop ☺️. Who else is like me and wants to buy tiles back in Barcelona for home decoration 😅? ⏰ Opening hours: Daily 9:00-18:00, until 20:00 in summer 🎫 Ticket price: 20.5€ 🔍 Official website: Casa Vicens #Barcelona #Spain #BarcelonaSpots #Gaudi #AskTheLocals #Design #BarcelonaAttractions #CasaVicens #GaudiArchitecture
