Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière in Lyon 🏰✨
Even the details are luxurious! In the 17th century, Lyon experienced multiple outbreaks of plague. Under the leadership of the city government, the citizens prayed to the Virgin Mary for protection. Whether by coincidence or sincerity, Lyon was spared. 🙏 At the highest point of Fourvière Hill stands a small church named after Thomas. After escaping misfortune, it was transformed into the Basilica of Notre-Dame. With the funds raised by the citizens, it was reconstructed by the Lyon architect Pierre Bossan, around 1850. It is said that the architect drew inspiration from the Norman architecture of Palermo, influenced by Byzantine styles. The interior is relatively more luxurious compared to other churches, exuding a Bling Bling vibe! 💎 Personally, I prefer the simpler and purer Church of Saint Joseph, the husband of Mary, located underground. You can either take a car or hike up to the highest point. When you reach the middle, you can overlook different parts of Lyon and even see a well-preserved Roman theater. It’s amazing to think it has been in use for so long—truly magnificent! 🎭✨ By the time I got to the church, I was seeing stars! 😵 After carefully exploring, I was exhausted and ended up dozing off with my mouth open on a church bench for half an hour. Afterward, I went to the nearby supermarket and bought a bottle of chilled sparkling water—what a refreshing treat! 🥤💖 #Architect #ArchitectureDesign #InteriorDesign #Church #HistoricalBuildings #France #Lyon #LifeInLyon #Art
