Boston's "Spring Shanghai Pan-Fried Buns"
š„ A Real Review of Boston's Popular "Spring Shanghai Pan-Fried Buns" š Restaurant: Spring Shanghai Pan-Fried Buns š Address: 90 Peterborough St, Boston, MA 02215 This place is a super popular "internet-famous" spot in Boston, often touted as the most authentic Shanghai-style pan-fried buns in the city. As someone from Ningbo, Zhejiang, I decided to give it a fair review. Even if itās considered the "closest thing to Shanghai-style in Boston" ā, if this is as good as it gets⦠I might just swear off pan-fried buns for life š„² š„ Pan-Fried Buns (Main Attraction) ā $9.25 for 4 Letās get straight to it: you can try them, but donāt set your expectations too high. The bottom of the buns has a crispy texture, and they do look the part. Thereās also plenty of soup inside. But hereās the catch: the flavor leans noticeably sweet (I personally prefer savory, meaty broth that packs a punch). For those with a Jiangzhehu palate, it just doesnāt quite hit homeāhard to stir up any real nostalgia. š„£ Wontons (Major Letdown) ā These arenāt the thin-skinned, delicate wontons youād expect. The wrapper is thick and heavy, missing that light, silky, fresh quality typical of Jiangzhehu-style wontons (thin-skin lovers will definitely be disappointed). š Lionās Head Meatballs Pretty averageāthe kind you could get at just about any Chinese restaurant without much thought. Nothing special here. āļø Overall Rating: 3.5/5 (Just Slightly Above Passing) š Good for: People in Boston who want to try a Jiangzhehu-inspired pan-fried bun for the first time. š Not for: Anyone from Jiangzhehu hoping to cure their homesicknessātemper your expectations. #BostonFood #SpringShanghai #SpringShanghaiBuns #BostonFoodReview #PanFriedBuns
