Boston | Finally got to eat the big tea rice rice noodles and pot rice
🍚 Big Fun Cafe: Quincy’s Hidden Cantonese Gem—Rice Pots & Cheung Fun to Crave Long on my list, and worth the trip from downtown—it’s just a 1-minute walk from the subway, super convenient! The spot is tiny (only 3-4 tables), so arrive early (we snagged the last table at 11:30 AM). The food? Simple, comforting, and packed with homey Cantonese flavor. 🌟 Must-Try Dishes Beef Brisket Cheung Fun + Egg ($9.5 + $1.25): 🥢 A first for me—silky rice rolls (cheung fun) stuffed with tender, fall-apart beef brisket. The rice sheets are delightfully slippery and soft, while the egg adds a subtle richness. Savory, satisfying, and far more interesting than plain cheung fun. Double Roast Clay Pot Rice ($16: Waxed Meat + Beef with Egg): 🍚 The standout. This clay pot rice comes with a golden, crispy crust (the coveted ,or rice crackling)—the mark of a great (clay pot rice). The waxed meat combo includes fatty (but delicious) preserved pork and sweet Cantonese sausage (the sausage was my favorite). The beef is tender (thanks to a marinade), and the fully cooked yet soft egg mixes beautifully into the rice. Their house sauce (mildly sweet, not salty) is the soul of the dish—drizzle it on for perfection. 🥤 Extras Stone-Ground Soy Milk (Hot, $2.5): 🥛 Sweet, creamy, and fresh—like homemade. The perfect pairing for the rich clay pot rice. ✨ What’s Next? With only two people, we couldn’t try more, but the menu’s full of temptation: curry fish ball cheung fun, char siu (barbecue pork) cheung fun, (fried dough wrapped in rice rolls), and congee. I’m already planning a return to work through the list. Big Fun Cafe is a tiny treasure—no frills, just delicious Cantonese classics. Ideal for a quick, satisfying meal. 📍 Big Fun Cafe 18 Brook St, Quincy, MA 02170 #QuincyEats #CantoneseFood #ClayPotRice
