Boston | I've Been on a Great Chinese Food Streak Lately 😋

Over the past six months, the restaurants I’ve tried have covered both northern and southern cuisines, and they’ve all been above average. Boston, you’re really stepping up your game! 🙌 Mulan Taiwanese Cuisine Located in Cambridge, this place offers great value for money, with large portions perfect for group dining. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Steamed Whole Fish with Pickled Radish Who would believe a whole steamed fish costs only $30? 🐟 It’s a firm-textured sea fish, but the seasoning completely masks any fishiness. The flavor profile is similar to Teochew-style preserved radish, but with a touch more sweetness and less saltiness. The tofu on the side is the highlight—tender, silky, and full of flavor. 😍 Mulan Roasted Chicken Perfectly seasoned roasted chicken, strangely reminiscent of Texas-style braised chicken. It’s a huge portion, with moist and tender meat—super satisfying with rice. 🍚 Stir-Fried Luffa and Snow Pea Shoots Both vegetables are stir-fried with that unmistakable wok hei. 🔥 The only downside is the spare ribs—the coating is too thick, and the meat inside is a bit dry, almost like elementary school cafeteria flashbacks. 😅 Gaga Seafood A small spot in Chinatown that’s easy to overlook but has the best hand-shredded chicken. 🐔 The sesame oil flavor is just right, and despite being loaded with scallions, it’s not overpowering. The pickled radish underneath is the star—crisp, tangy, and pairs perfectly with the tender chicken and chewy skin, cutting through any richness. 💯 Their stir-fried seafood also stands out with a hint of fermented black bean seasoning. 🦑 Aside from the less-than-ideal ambiance, everything else is perfect. Wong Kok Allston I ordered shrimp rice rolls and stir-fried water spinach for takeout. 🥡 The rice rolls were generously filled with shrimp and had a silky, smooth texture. The water spinach stir-fried with fermented tofu instantly transported me back to China. 🇨🇳 On Thursdays, using the HungryPanda app, there’s a 50% discount storewide and a $5 off with a $15 minimum spend, making it a fantastic deal for lunch. 🎉 Heading back to China soon for the real food… I’m coming for you, hairy crabs, winter bamboo shoots, frost-killed leafy greens, jianbing, and soup dumplings! 🦀🎋🥬🥟✨ #WorldMapOfTheChineseStomach #BostonFood #BostonChineseCuisine #GoodEats #WhatStudentsEat
