š„ Guy-Kaku (Brookline): Bostonās Disappointing Gyu-KakuāAvoid This Location After three years in Boston, I finally tried Gyu-Kakuāand left devastated. This Brookline outpost is a mess: poor quality, sloppy service, and a meal that left us reaching for rice to cut the salt. ā The Major Flaws Terrible Quality Control: š„© Most meats were unbearably saltyāmarinated beef and spicy shrimp were inedible without drowning in sauce. The worst? $13 beef tongue: six thin slices that were both salty and fishy, with a rankness that made us gag. Even the garlic-marinated beef was tough, with chewy bits of gristle. Shoddy Service: š½ When changing the grill, hot oil splattered onto my face (no apology). Later, they over-served sāmores and insisted we pay for the extra until we argued. Unprofessional and careless. š The āMehā Details Ordering: No buffet on weekendsāwe got the $70 āA Setā (6 beef cuts, 2 salads, rice, miso soup, fried chicken, sāmores) plus add-ons (spicy shrimp, extra beef, tongue, matcha tiramisu). The set is better than Ć la carte, but thatās faint praise. Other Bites: Matcha tiramisu ($4.95): Cloyingly sweet, with dry cake (not ladyfingers)āskip. Sāmores: Cute to make, but overly sweet (as expected). White rice: Criticalāthe only thing saving us from the salt bomb of the meats. šø The Verdict Price: $40 per person for 3 peopleārip-off for the quality. Better Alternatives: Roommates swear the Cambridge location has better quality control. Save your time (and taste buds) and go there instead. Brooklineās Gyu-Kaku is a disaster. From salty, fishy meats to careless service, thereās no reason to return. š Guy-Kaku Japanese BBQ 1002 Beacon St, Brookline, MA 02446 #BostonBBQ #JapaneseGrill #Disappointment
