Budapest Affordable Foie Gras Restaurant Recommendation

✅When setting off to Budapest, Hungary, I knew the local specialty was foie gras. I searched for this restaurant earlier, which offers relatively good value. It’s a 15 to 20-minute walk from the hotel near the train station, all within the more convenient areas of the city center. ✅We ate at this restaurant a bit spontaneously, so we didn’t have a reservation. We arrived around 2 pm and waited for two or three tables, about 15 minutes, then we could be seated. The architectural style inside is simple and comfortable, and the prices are much cheaper than in Austria. A glass of juice costs only 399 Forints, less than $10 HKD. The most expensive item on the menu is foie gras. Apple foie gras is about 10,000 Forints, around 200 HKD. A combination of roasted goose leg with a slice of foie gras is 5,000 Forints. Because we were greedy, we also ordered an additional main course, roast beef with fried onions, also around 5,000 Forints, about 100 HKD. We also ordered two soups, one garlic soup and one Hungarian beef soup, each for about 20+ HKD. It’s a real bargain by European standards. ✅The soups here are done well. The Hungarian beef soup is rich in ingredients with a lot of beef. The garlic soup was my first time, I thought the strong garlic flavor would be too intense, but the restaurant blended the garlic with cream and served it with dried bread. It was just right, with a garlic aroma but very palatable. ✅Regarding the main courses, only the foie gras was truly delicious. The fatty foie gras paired with the refreshing apple was perfect, but it’s recommended to share between two people; otherwise, it’s too greasy. The goose leg felt average, too mushy, the texture wasn’t suitable for a Cantonese person. The worst mistake was ordering the steak. Maybe it’s a difference in taste culture, but the steak was well-done, and a fork wouldn’t even go into it. I tried very hard and still couldn’t eat it after two bites. ✅We ate this meal as two people, and it cost about 27,000 Forints, around 500 HKD. The portion size was excessive. Normally, it should be around 20,000 Forints. I suggest ordering two soups and one foie gras. At most, add an appetizer or a lighter salad, which seems to be around 1,000 to 2,000 Forints, don’t order two main courses, the portion size is really too much to handle.
