California Food Plog | đŸ„© Lawry's The Prime Rib

The "old money" steakhouse Lawry's The Prime Rib, which originated in California, has now opened a branch in Shanghai this year! However, after trying the original location in Beverly Hills, my personal rating is: not recommended. ❌ Here’s the restaurant’s menu for your reference. 📄 Cream of Tomato Soup: The rich and creamy texture is pleasantly balanced with the sweet and tangy flavor of tomatoes, making this soup surprisingly tasty. 😊 A price of $12 is somewhat acceptable. 👌 Prime New York Strip đŸ„© Although the name includes "prime," the meat quality doesn’t quite reach the US Prime grade. Ordered medium-rare, it was still slightly tough. The steak seems to have been grilled over charcoal on a grid, giving it a smoky barbecue aroma. However, overall, it’s nothing special—just average, and not great value for the price. Price: $67 💾 Prime Rib Lawry Cut đŸ„© The slow-roasted ribeye, served medium-rare with gravy and mashed potatoes, starts off very smooth and flavorful. But as you keep eating, it becomes increasingly greasy. đŸ„Ž The fatty parts, especially, weren’t seared directly and end up being too rich and heavy
Towards the end, I had to force it down with salad. I usually order medium-rare, but this cut was so fatty that I’d suggest going for medium or above. Priced at $59, it’s slightly better value than the NY Strip, but the Lawry Cut is quite thin! If you do order, go for the thickest or second-thickest bone-in option! 💡 Ice Cream Sundae 🍩 Desserts in traditional American steakhouses can be quite underwhelming
You’re better off buying Ben & Jerry’s or even HĂ€agen-Dazs. At $12, the price is okay, but it’s nothing memorable. 🍹 The Beverly Hills location has an impressive and classic sign. đŸ›ïž The restaurant attracts many older, well-dressed American regulars—true "old-school" patrons—as well as families dining together. Americans really seem to love this place! đŸ‘”đŸ‘ŽđŸ‘šđŸ‘©đŸ‘§đŸ‘Š Today’s bill came to 183 for two people. After adding tip, it was just over 200. đŸ’” Value for money is subjective, of course. Overall, it’s not extremely overpriced, and the service and ambiance are decent. But personally, I won’t be trying the Shanghai branch of Lawry’s—at a price point of around „700 per person, there are many better options available. đŸ€·â™€ïž Have you been to Lawry’s—in the US or elsewhere?
