Canberra Citywalk | Ultra-efficient Night Travel Guide

It’s been almost three months since my trip to Canberra. The photos from my autumn trip were delayed until spring before I posted them. Melbourne ✈️ Canberra The flight from Melbourne only takes an hour. I landed in Canberra at 1 pm. 🚌 After landing, I bought a single-trip ticket, took a bus and transferred to the light rail. Transfers within 90 minutes don’t require extra payment. I checked in at the hotel first and then headed out immediately. 📍 Australian War Memorial I booked tickets online in advance. The exhibition hall is large. If you have enough time, it’s recommended to go to the Pool of Reflection on the top floor around 4-5 pm. I heard there’s a veteran farewell ceremony at 5 pm daily. 📍 Mount Ainslie The mountain behind the War Memorial is Mount Ainslie, the best vantage point to overlook Canberra’s (panorama). Taking an Uber directly to the mountain takes about 10 minutes. No matter how many big cities you’ve seen, watching the sunset panorama from the top of the mountain still feels (stunning). 📍 National Library of Australia Take a bus to the library stop. Start from here and walk down along the main axis. A quick tour of the library is enough. 📍 Lake Burley Griffin On the way to the National Gallery of Australia, I happened to walk along Lake Burley Griffin. Since we visited in autumn, there was a stunning avenue of red leaves by the lake, which made me take photos there for a long time. 📍 National Gallery of Australia As the capital’s art gallery, it’s definitely on par with the NGV. There’s a wide variety of exhibits—I could have spent the whole afternoon here if I wasn’t in a hurry. Behind the gallery, there’s a small pink building, which is a must-visit photo spot. 📍 Old Parliament House & New Parliament House The Old Parliament House is now called the Museum of Australian Democracy, with a few contemporary exhibitions and some historical relics from the last century. The New Parliament House is very large, but not much of it is open to the public. Both buildings allow visits to the Senate and House of Representatives chambers. As one of the few publicly accessible parliamentary buildings, it’s worth a visit. On the second day, all attractions were along a single route. I bought a 10-AUD daily pass, with buses available for round trips. It’s convenient to walk between attractions. Since we started late both days, we had to skip some check-in spots. The Australian National University and National Museum of Australia can be visited on the morning of either day. If you have three days, you can also go to the National Arboretum—an Uber driver recommended it, and I’d love to visit if I had the time. #AutumnInMyEyes #Canberra #CanberraLife #CanberraTravel #CanberraTravelGuide #StudyInCanberra #CanberraSpeedTravel #AustraliaTravel #MyNicheTravelGuide
