Colonial Charm of "Black Rome" - Salvador

The city of Salvador is located on a peninsula in the Atlantic Ocean, close to All Saints Bay, and is a coastal city in the northeast of Brazil. It is the third-largest city in Brazil and the capital of the state of Bahia. Salvador is also one of the oldest cities in Brazil and once served as the country's first capital. The city has a significant African cultural influence, with the majority of its residents being of African descent, earning it the nickname "Black Rome." ⛲️ Pelourinho Square: Surrounded by colorful houses, this square feels like stepping into a small Portuguese town. The colonial-era buildings, painted in soft blues and pinks, face the cobblestone square, where bands sometimes perform. The sounds of drums, singing, and the cheers of tourists create a very warm atmosphere. ⛪️ Igreja São Francisco da Barra, founded in 1708, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Church of São Francisco is one of the most beautiful churches in Salvador, with a Baroque style and opulent interior decoration. The walls and ceilings are covered in gold leaf, and many statues and sculptures are also gilded, shimmering with gold. 🛗 Lacerda Elevator: Connecting the old and new parts of Salvador, this elevator is not only an important mode of transportation but also offers a chance to enjoy panoramic views of the city and the sea. The elevator that connects the upper and lower cities takes only 30 seconds and costs 0.15 reais, which is virtually free, as long as you're willing to wait in line. It also serves as a dividing line for security: while you can stroll comfortably in the upper city, you need to keep an eye on your wallet and phone in the lower city. The elevator connects the Cairu Square in the lower city with the Commerce Square in the upper city. 🍴 Moqueca at Amado Restaurant: Moqueca is a cooking method for fish that originated in Salvador. 🍴 Mistura Restaurant 🍴 Chez Bernard 🍴 Lafayette Restaurant 🍴 Soho Restaurant 🍴 Lotti Cucina Italian #Salvador #Brazil #BrazilSalvador #SouthAmericaTravel
