I visited this restaurant because of the good reviews and appealing menu, but my experience was extremely disappointing. When I arrived, they informed me there was a waiting list, which I had no problem with. However, as I waited, I noticed several groups without reservations being seated ahead of me. After watching over six parties get in, I approached the hostess, who claimed they were going to the bar—but I could clearly see they were being seated. I couldn't help but feel that I was being overlooked as the only Black woman waiting alone.
When I finally spoke up, they offered to seat me, but by then, my appetite was gone. If they preferred larger parties over solo diners, a simple heads-up would have been appreciated rather than being left to wait indefinitely. I can't shake the feeling that if I looked different, my experience might have been different as well. This was truly disappointing, especially here in Bahia. I hope they improve their approach to hospitality for...
Read moreThis “in” restaurant is located in the Bahia Marina in Salvador, where you have a beautiful view of the bay and even of Salvador’s famous Laçerda Elevator. Even during these trying Covid times, you’re going to have to wait to be seated. The place will be full any time, trust me. The service is pretty good. Our waiters (Jaguar and Souza) were always there whenever we needed something. The food is beautifully presented and the fish is all very fresh. My complaints are that they only had 2 sakes to choose from (in a Japanese restaurant of this level?); and the regular sushis and sashimis were excellent, but I didn’t really think the sushi specials were really worth it. That’s not a complaint, just my opinion. Soho Japanese Restaurant is very good, without a doubt. But I don’t think it’s as good as the hype. Don’t get me wrong—it’s worth a visit, and you won’t be disappointed by the food, but it’s not as good as the crowds think it is. You stick to...
Read moreSuper disappointing experience at Soho. We had to wait an extraordinary amount of time for everything, from the cocktails whilst waiting for our table to order to actually receiving the food. There was so many dishes that didn’t even arrive and we had to re-order or remind our waiter to put in our order after he had already gotten it. The tempura prawns were deep fried so hard that they were hard to chew, the spicy tuna was not spicy, the gyosa still had the prawn tails in them… I don’t mind paying a lot of money when it’s excellent food and service but this was not worth the wait. Avoid spending your...
