📍Crater Lake National Park
The deepest lake in North America 🏞️💙 It’s a relatively small national park with fewer visitors and not too many attractions. There aren’t a ton of activities to choose from, but… The Milky Way is incredibly bright here 🌌, the lake water is unbelievably blue, the sunsets are breathtaking 🌅, and yes—even the roasted sweet potatoes smell amazing! 🍠🔥 The lake is filled solely by snowmelt and rainfall 💧❄️, with no rivers flowing in. That’s why it has some of the clearest water in the world. The massive volume of water absorbs all light except blue, making its color the purest blue many have ever seen. We were lucky enough to capture the Milky Way with an iPhone 📱✨, and we even witnessed the migration of California tortoiseshell butterflies—thousands of them floating by like autumn leaves in the wind 🦋🍂. The park is working to remove non-native trout, so you can fish without limits or permits 🎣🚫. At Cleetwood Cove, you can swim and take boat tours 🚤💦. Mazama Campground offers cabins and campsites 🏕️. Network coverage is spotty throughout the park, so offline maps are a must 📵🗺️. Note: A section of the Rim Drive is under construction starting August 1st, so the full loop can’t be completed right now. P.S. Highly recommend the “Explore National Parks” podcast series 🎧—full of fun tips and facts.
