🥡 Dallas | Let Me Show You What American Colleagues

This week, I was dragged by my coworkers to two of their favorite "Chinese" spots in Dallas — Kin's and Hawkers. Let’s just say… I’ve had quite the cultural (and culinary) experience 🤣 Spoiler alert: both are about as Chinese as Panda Express — but my American colleagues absolutely love them! 🍜 Kin’s – Panda’s Fancy Cousin Located right next to the legit Pho Pasteur II, Kin’s looks clean and modern inside. But the menu? Oh boy — it’s basically Panda Express on steroids, with a side of Vietnamese flair 😂 Char Siu Noodles ($18): The portion wasn’t huge, but there was a decent amount of char siu. Flavor? Just okay — a bit porky, not very crispy or aromatic. The noodles were nice — similar to Hong Kong-style bamboo noodle, dry and springy. The broth had some crispy pork bits — overall filling, but not mind-blowing. Lunch Combo ($9.99): Comes with rice, one entrée, and two spring rolls. Pretty small portion. ⚠️ Avoid the Hot & Sour Soup — it’s a total miss 🙅‍♀️ Mongolian Beef (Pic 6): If this doesn’t scream “American Chinese,” I don’t know what does 😂 Verdict: Decent if you’re into American Chinese — but pricey for what you get. 🥢 Hawkers – The “Cool Asian Fusion” Spot This place looks super trendy inside — I had high hopes! Then I saw the menu… and died a little inside 💀 It’s Asian fusion — which explains why my colleagues love it the way some people freak out over Velvet Taco 🌮 We ordered: Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) Pork Belly Buns Some kind of chicken dish Let’s just say… these dishes and real Chinese food are — at best — distant cousins 👨👩👧👦 Very distant. My American coworkers? OBSESSED. Me? I’ll pass next time, thanks 😅 🧐 Final Thoughts Sharing these two spots — not recommending 😌 But if you're curious what passes for “Chinese food” in some American circles… now you know! #DallasEats #AmericanChinese #AsianFusion #KinS #Hawkers #FoodHumor #NotRealChinese
