Dining Record - A One-Star Michelin Experience in a French Border Town
Wondering what to eat in Basel? 🤔 The answer is, of course, not to eat in Basel! This time, I chose Le 7ème Continent, a one-star Michelin restaurant in Rixheim, France. It's less than a half-hour train ride from Basel SBB, and the restaurant is just a five-minute walk from the station. 🚂 Overall impression first: It meets the one-star expectations and is worth the price. The menu options are 160/115/70 euros for 7/5/3 courses, respectively, and a weekday lunch is 49 euros. Why spend your money in Basel? 💸 We opted for the 70-euro, three-course menu this time. The amuse bouche was followed by a starter of veal thymus, truffle, and potato. Although the presentation was a bit rustic, the flavors were on point. The combination of yolk, truffle, and potato is quite common, but they complemented the texture and taste of the veal thymus perfectly. 🥩 The main course was pigeon with beetroot. The pigeon was perfectly cooked, and the portion was generous. The earthy taste of the beetroot was not overpowering, making it a great match. 🐽 For dessert, the theme was kiwi and vanilla. Since it was divided into three components, many typical elements appeared. However, the presence of kiwi gradually faded after the initial kiwi sorbet and fresh kiwi slices. Fortunately, the dominant vanilla flavor was not cloying, so it was a decent finish. 🍌 Overall, the meal had no fatal flaws but also no standout moments. It was a solid one-star experience. Compared to Switzerland, the value for money was quite impressive. 💰 #Basel #BaselFood #Switzerland #SwissCuisine #FrenchBorder #MichelinRestaurant #RestaurantReview #FrenchCuisine #GourmetFood
