DTLA|Conrad Hotel Review 🏨
For the final stop of our car-free Southern California trip, we stayed at the DTLA Conrad—a hotel I’d been wanting to check out for a while! Heard it’s the newest and best in Downtown LA. Great location—not far from Union Station, right across from the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and within walking distance to The Broad, Angels Flight Railway, and Grand Central Market. Super convenient! 🚶♀️📍 I booked through Amex FHR + used my Hilton Diamond status. Reserved the most basic room and got a one-category upgrade to a room with a view of the Disney Concert Hall. (Note: Saw some reports saying booking a studio increases chances of a suite upgrade, but you might lose that killer view! 🎻🌆) 🌞 Lobby & Common Areas Arrived on a clear, sunny day. Took the elevator up to the lobby and was instantly soothed by the vibe: Wood accents + round tables + fabric sofas + lush greenery 🌿 Floor-to-ceiling windows let sunlight pour in, casting beautiful tree shadows—like a natural light exhibition. People were sipping drinks at the bar, working on laptops, all with upbeat music in the background—chill and comfortable. The pool area is simple but spacious, great for swimming or just lounging under the California sun. 🏊☀️ 🎂 The Room Received a birthday dessert (3 cupcakes—way too sweet though 😂, tried one bite and gave up) and a bottle of sparkling water. The view was definitely a plus, but some details fell short: 1️⃣ Loud whistling wind noise in the room. Contacted the front desk—no one came for an hour. Called again and asked to change rooms. Even though many rooms showed available online, they claimed none were free. A maintenance worker finally came and found the window lock was loose—fixed with a half-turn, but the handle was left dangling. 2️⃣ Returned from dinner around 8 PM—room hadn’t been serviced. First FHR hotel I’ve stayed at that didn’t offer turndown service. When I asked, they said housekeeping had already clocked out. 🤷♂️ 3️⃣ Mini-bar wooden cabinet was warped, so the fridge wouldn’t close properly, causing ice to melt and leak water onto the floor. 💧 4️⃣ I confirmed late checkout at 4 PM (FHR benefit), but housekeeping entered the room early while all our stuff was still there—felt disrespectful. 🍽 Dining Dinner at the hotel restaurant San Laurel was delicious—but breakfast was a letdown (more on that in a separate post!). ✅ Final Thoughts Conrad DTLA has great ambiance, facilities, location, and friendly front-desk staff—but falls short on attention to detail. The stay was comfortable overall, but “details make the difference.” Too many small issues diluted what could have been a perfect experience.
