Eat, Eat, Eat in Spain —— Zumaia explores Idoia
🦪 Restaurante Idoia, Zumaia: A Coastal Letdown (Even With Uni on the Menu) Zumaia is a stunner—those dramatic flysch cliffs, the way the tides carve patterns into the rock (seriously, check my last post for the deets). So when we rolled into town, we figured a quick stop at Restaurante Idoia would cap off the morning nicely. Spoiler: It didn’t. 🌟 The Breakdown (Out of 5) Taste: 2.0 (meh, at best) Vibe: 3.0 (basic bar feel—nothing special, but not unpleasant) Service: 3.5 (friendly enough, quick to take orders) Value: 3.0 (you get what you pay for… which isn’t much) 🦴 The Uni That Didn’t Shine The menu had a surprise: sea urchin (uni), priced at €3.1 a pop. We leaned in, thinking, Coastal town + fresh uni = win. Wrong. Each piece arrived smothered in melted cheese and shreds of crab—so much so, the uni’s natural briny, buttery sweetness was totally buried. It tasted like a generic seafood topping, not the star it should’ve been. Not inedible, but… why even use uni here? It felt like a wasted opportunity. 😐 The rest of the menu? Just as forgettable. We sampled a few tapas—standard stuff, no standout flavors, nothing that screamed “Zumaia’s best.” It’s the kind of place you eat at when you’re starving and don’t care, not when you’re seeking something memorable. 📍 Restaurante Idoia Julio Beobide Ibilbidea, 2, 20750 Zumaia Zumaia’s natural beauty deserves better. If you’re here for the flysch and tides, keep walking—there are surely better spots to refuel. This one’s easy to skip. #Spain #SpanishTravel #Bilbao #Zumaia #FoodieTales
