Edmonton Day Trips | A 30-Year-Old Small-Town Museum ππ
Just a half-hour drive π from downtown Edmonton lies the charming town of Stony Plain, home to over 40 large-scale murals βοΈ and a museum that rivals even the Alberta Provincial Museum in its collectionβthe Stony Plain & Parkland Pioneer Museum. Since its establishment in 1992, the museum has meticulously showcased the town's history from 1880 to 1950, step by step π£. It now boasts 25 buildings and houses over 12,000 artifacts. πΎ The Barn The museum's first building, now dedicated to an exhibition on women, tells the stories of their lives and the war brides π°ββοΈ. Among them are tales of women who joined the air force, with each narrative and accompanying image captivating visitors. π« The School Built in 1910 during the Xuantong era, the school's interior remains unchanged to this day. Visitors can sit in different corners of the classroom π©βπ« and relive the good old days of being a student. In winter, the traditional stove in the classroom might even be lit! π Main Street of the Town A museum highlight not to be missed! Behind a dimly lit corridor lies a complete replica of a town's main street! From department stores, pharmacies π, and barber shops π to clinics and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police station, every item inside is a historical artifact. Even the baby scale used when local residents were born is still intact, leaving visitors in awe. Parked on the street is a priceless Pierce Arrow antique car, worth $2,795 in 1935! Its elegance remains unparalleled even in the 21st century! π The Community Hall Housing over 150 years' worth of gas lamps, many of which are exquisitely crafted, it's a testament to the high standard of living in the town back then. No wonder Li Hongzhang was left speechless when he visited New York! π΅ The Teahouse From May to September, the teahouse opens every Friday and Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM, serving homemade lunches π± and desserts to visitors. β½οΈ The Gas Station Full of North American small-town charm, the merchandise inside remains unchanged from its original state. π Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum π 5120-41 Avenue, Stony Plain, Alberta T7Z 1L5 π« Donation-based admission (a tax receipt is available for donations over $25) β° 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM π‘ Regular events held π ΏοΈ Free parking Although this small-town museum doesn't have NPCs π₯», the richness and immersiveness of its collection make it feel even better than the Alberta Provincial Museum.
