Here's the deal. I've always been fairly pleased with the pizza at Royal. Albeit a little expensive for what you get, it's a classic Edmonton establishment where the pies are made from scratch.
Get anything but the pizza, however, and you're in trouble. Biiiig trouble.
Five of us at work go in on a large pie, two caesar salads, and a side of wings. The bill came to around $62, though the amount of food was equal to half that cost.
If I could show you pictures of the $11.95 caesar salad, you would laugh. Or maybe you'd cry. Either way, my mouth hit the floor when I opened the "meal sized" (sarcasm there, hence the quotation marks) styrofoam box containing the "caesar salad" (more sarcasm). It was LETTUCE and CRUTONS. FOR $11.95!!! This sad excuse for a salad would be a $4 side, $5 at most. I literally almost thought it was a joke at first. I figured it probably cost Royal Pizza about 50 cents worth of ingredients to make. Now, this had me thinking their business model was based on greed, that they were trying to maximize profit with no regard for quality. But then I realized that wouldn't be true, otherwise they'd call themselves Royal Salad and sell only disgustingly overpriced styrofoam boxes of lettuce.
I won't even get into the $10 wings. I'd call them B.B.B. (Bogus Beyond Belief).
The only somewhat redeeming quality was the pizza. But at $24 for a "large" pie that actually looked only slightly bigger than a personal pizza and was only marginally better quality than Domino's, I just don't get where these guys are coming from.
To be fair, I wasn't originally going to post this review. I did give Royal Pizza a call first and asked to speak to a manager. I expressed that we were dissatisfied with the salads purchased as well as the overall quantity of food for what we paid. The manager seemed more concerned whether or not we received dressing with the salad than of the actual quality of it. Who cares!? Dressing or not, it's just a bunch of store-bought, pre-cut lettuce! The best she said she could do was give us a voucher of $11.95 to cover a salad the next time we order, essentially ignoring my concern that their salads are, in fact, a small styrofoam box with some seriously sad lettuce inside.
Even if they gave us a voucher for another $60 order, that wouldn't be enough to feed 5 people with these insane prices. Something's...

We had the Meat lover's Calzone, green salad, Donair, fries, and softdrinks.
First off all the food and ingredients were very fresh and you could taste the difference that makes. From the salad to the Donair toppings everything was fresh, crisp and tasty.
The Donair itself was very good and wrapped in a soft, fresh pita. It came with the traditional style tzatziki sauce, the kind that is light and has a taste of cucumber. Personally I prefer the other style sauce with the sweet honey taste, but this was excellent too and will greatly please Donair traditionalists. The fries were fairly standard but tasty, but were also fresh and clearly had been cooked in new, clean oil as they weren't polluted with the flavour of other foods like at many restaurants.
The Calzone was probably the best I've had in a long time. At first I was surprised because it was served without any side sauce or sauce on the top. I decided to try it before asking for some. Good call. Their Calzones have a perfect crust. It's very light and thin so that the bread to contents ratio is just perfect. I realized that the reason you normally coat a calzone with sauce it to compensate for the crust being too thick and dry. Not necessary here. The crust was perfect, the contents were again fresh and tasty with just the right amount of filling. The spices, sauce and meat mix was perfect. Very enjoyable.
The restaurant is clean and bright and the staff were attentive, professional and very friendly. We have decided that Royal Pizza is definitely going into our regular...
Read moreWas out dining in at the restaurant yesterday since having to do grocery afterwards. My server was Natasha ( looks East Indian ethnicity ) . I came here since restaurant has my favourite beverage ( coke ). I should have went to Boston Pizza since it was pasta Tuesday however they have pepsi as soft drink; sooner coke any time as it's world Number 1 beverage. I ordered my favourite dish that was spaghetti w/ meatballs and requested bringing more napkins b/c of messes made with the sauce. At end of my meal Natasha wanted me to drop all the napkins used in my garlic toast dish to spaghetti bowl which I never said a word but remained silent. It's rather unprofessional that she mentioned her concern about the napkins. Way I looked at the situation figuring I may have used napkins in blowing my nose which never do leaving behind on table. I have a very professional attitude having a supply of my own tissues. Also, my health is up to par compared with the majority. It's third time coming to dine at restaurant and had excellent services from other servers there. I only tipped very little since Natasha 's service seemed disrespectful. I was off on my own since 22 years of age with lots of job experiences considerably to individuals nowadays can not even make it on their own. Doesn't matter with wage differences whatsoever as it went with the times. Furthermore, I decided ending coming to this location and find my grocery linking Royal Pizza with another location. Furthermore, Glad you willmade a note...
