Enjoying Sister City Flavors: A Visit to Akizawa in Portland 🌸

When in Portland, I always want to try something unique. As a sister city to Sapporo, Japan, Portland holds authentic Japanese flavors, so I decided to visit a local sushi spot. Without a reservation, I arrived early on a holiday and luckily got a table! It’s better to call ahead on regular days, though. 😊 The place is called Akizawa—modest outside but warm and inviting inside. The menu was full of tempting choices! I ordered the seasonal duck dish, tender with a subtle glaze, and a sea urchin tuna hand roll, wrapped in crispy nori with a fresh, flavorful filling. 🍣 The biggest surprise was the signature grilled fish collar (Kama). Crispy and golden outside, juicy and tender inside, every bite was rich and satisfying, without any fishy taste! 🔥 The sashimi platter was also impressive, especially the Hokkaido sea urchin. It looked simple but tasted sweet and creamy, with no bitterness at all. 🍱 Even the steamed egg custard was delightful—silky smooth with a delicate broth that warmed the heart. This seems like one of those places where “everything on the menu is delicious”! ✨ Overall, Akizawa uses fresh ingredients and delivers solid, thoughtful flavors from presentation to taste. Though slightly pricey, it seems to match Portland’s general sushi standards. 💸 If you’re visiting the city, give it a try—it might just become a highlight of your food journey! 🍥 📍Location: 507 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97205 💰Price per person: Around $50-100 📌Recommendations: Grilled fish collar, sea urchin sashimi, seasonal menu #PortlandSushi #AkizawaReview #SisterCityEats #UniLover #FishCollarFan #TravelFood #JapaneseCuisine
