Erbil | A Peaceful Farewell to Iraq
Today marks my final day in Erbil—and my last moments in Iraq. I woke up early, knowing the morning would be my last chance to soak in this city before heading to the airport. Morning in Erbil felt different. The usual buzz of crowds had faded, leaving only the hum of passing cars—a gentle reminder of the city’s pulse. Yet the quiet streets offered a serenity I hadn’t found elsewhere in Iraq. A Green Oasis: Sami Abdulrahman Park 🌳 This massive park (reportedly the largest in the Middle East) was my sanctuary. Lush lawns, tranquil lakes, towering fountains, and symbolic statues lined its peaceful pathways. After a week of travel, it was the perfect place to breathe and reflect. 😌 Erbil’s Two Faces 1️⃣ The Modern Metropolis: Gleaming skyscrapers and spotless boulevards—unexpected in Iraq! 2️⃣ Jalil Khayat Mosque: Though built only in 2007, this largest mosque in Kurdistan stopped me in my tracks. I’d spotted its domes from the citadel the day before—its grandeur undeniable. Final Thoughts Seven days in Iraq felt far too short. This country, once shadowed by uncertainty, is quietly reclaiming its magic. I left with one certainty: I’ll be back. Until then, "بسلامة" (bisalama)—travel safe, Iraq. ☺️ #Erbil #Kurdistan #Iraq #IraqTravel
