Perched dramatically above a canyon near Soran, Rawanduz is one of Kurdistan’s most breathtaking destinations. This picturesque town sits at an elevation of 500 meters, where a winding river cuts through the gorge, flanked by towering rock walls. A Journey Filled with Smiles On the shared taxi from Erbil to Soran, I met a bright-eyed Kurdish girl who flashed me the biggest grin every time I glanced her way. Before parting ways, she eagerly asked for a photo, then surprised me with warm hugs and kisses! ☺️ Unexpected Kurdish Hospitality While wandering Rawanduz, three women baking crispy flatbread in a roadside shop waved me over—and gifted me a fresh, steaming piece.
