Middle East Adventure — Iraq: The Spectacular Hamilton Road
Hamilton Road: A Scenic Masterpiece Built between 1928-1932 by British engineer Archibald Hamilton and local laborers, this engineering marvel winds through northern Iraq’s rugged landscapes, starting at the breathtaking Gali Ali Beg Canyon. The road clings to the edges of the deep, narrow gorge, offering jaw-dropping views of sheer cliffs and a winding river below.✨ Rawanduz: A Cliffside Gem✨✨ At the road’s end lies Rawanduz, a charming town perched 500m above sea level atop the canyon. The river snakes through the valley, flanked by towering rock formations—a scene straight out of a painting. Final Thoughts on Iraq🏰 After 14 days traversing Iraq—from Basra in the south to the Kurdish north—I’ve seen a country still healing from war. Compared to its Gulf neighbors, Iraq is poorer, yet rebuilding is everywhere. ⚠️ Security Note: Military checkpoints are ubiquitous—on highways, in cities, and especially entering Kurdistan. But as a Chinese traveler, I felt welcome and safe throughout my solo journey.🏙️🏙️ #FollowLaoMiaoToSeeTheWorld #Travel #Asia #Iraq #Erbil #HamiltonRoad
