Today, I’m taking you to Claudia Sanders Dinner House — the only restaurant that still uses Colonel Harland Sanders’ original 1939 recipe! Named after the Colonel’s wife, Claudia, this place is located in 3202 Shelbyville Rd, Shelbyville, KY 40065 — where the Colonel moved after selling KFC in 1964. It’s also where he lived after retirement. 🚗 Just a 30-minute drive from downtown Louisville, the route is scenic — horse farms, pastures 🐎, and classic Southern landscapes. The big red sign is hard to miss! 🏠 The little house you see when turning in is where the Colonel and his wife lived. The restaurant is a bit further — a beautiful, retro two-story wooden building. Sadly, the original burned down in 1999, but it was rebuilt exactly as it was. This isn’t fast food — it’s a traditional Southern restaurant with a warm, hall-like atmosphere. The staff are incredibly friendly! 📅 Only open Tuesday–Sunday. 🍽️ Sunday = All-You-Can-Eat Buffet ($23.99/person) 🍴 Tuesday–Saturday = Regular menu ❌ Closed Mondays — don’t show up then! 🍗 I highly recommend the Sunday buffet! Unlimited original-recipe fried chicken 🧂, steak, sides, and desserts. The chicken is marinated with a special blend of herbs — juicier and more flavorful than modern KFC. Dip it in their signature gravy — pure heaven! 🤤 The staff insisted we try dessert — and it was delicious too 😋. On regular days, order the Claudia’s Chicken Special — their version of “Original Recipe.” The pre-meal rolls are amazing — honestly, as good as Texas Roadhouse’s! 🧈 Before you leave, explore the gift shop — I picked up some seasoning and a recipe book as souvenirs.
