Explore History at Saugus Iron Works
Massachusetts' First Ironworks + Giant Waterwheel! Summer's here, and our family's on a mission to visit every NPS site in Massachusetts—starting with the fascinating Saugus Iron Works! Join us in exploring this historic gem and collecting Junior Ranger badges along the way! ✨ This 17th-century ironworks was America's first industrial-scale iron factory! Set along a scenic river with lush woods, it offers free guided tours—but the BEST part? The massive waterwheel and machinery ONLY operate during tour times (seriously impressive to see in action)! 👩🏫 We visited on a weekday and basically got a private tour! The ranger brought history to life as we explored the forge, furnace room, and original tools/workbenches. When that waterwheel started turning, we were totally awestruck! 🎖️ Don't forget to grab a Junior Ranger booklet at the Visitor Center! Kids complete fun activities to earn a special badge—learning + adventure = perfect combo! 📘⭐️ ✔️ FREE admission ✔️ Easy parking ✔️ Compact but packed with cool stuff (plus grassy areas for picnics!) ✔️ Summer concerts on select evenings—bring a blanket! #BostonKids #USHistory #BostonLife #FamilyTravel #NPS #Massachusetts #EducationalFun #JuniorRanger #HistoricSites #SummerAdventures
