Finally Tried the Legendary "God of Sushi" in LA! 🇺🇸🍣

Matsuhisa – located near Beverly Hills. My friend kept telling me on the way that this was the best omakase she’s ever had, so we booked a spot before our flight! ✈️ Walking in, it felt like a Japanese restaurant that’s been around for years—a bit classic and dated. We were led to a small room where four people were already seated. We were the last to arrive, but that didn’t stop us from starting with a bottle of sake to kick things off! 🍶 The Nobu 40 was excellent—rich, slightly sweet, and very refreshing. First up: 1️⃣ A veggie handroll with miso to awaken the palate. Then came: 2️⃣ A taco made with nori and squid ink, plus guacamole and caviar. This deserves a five-star rating—absolutely incredible! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 3️⃣ A quads plate with fish flown in from Japan. Starting from the right: • Hamachi with yuzu and olive oil. • Below it, salmon roe—this was the first time I’ve had roe so fresh and not overly salty! It was served with a clear broth—so delicious. Another five stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 • On the left, I think it was snapper with ponzu and jalapeño (forgive me, I was too immersed to catch the chef’s full explanation 😅). • On top, Japanese conch—first bite was a “WOW” moment. So good! 4️⃣ - 5️⃣ Were nigiri sushi 🍣. Don’t ask the names—I already forgot! Were they good? Absolutely. Truly lives up to the title of best omakase. 6️⃣ Sweet shrimp sushi—one of my favorites. Fresh, sweet, and super clean. Really different from what I’ve had in Houston—no comparison. 7️⃣ Hokkaido uni sushi—this was similar to what I’ve had in Houston. Definitely the same Hokkaido uni I’d buy at Sewai. Delicious. 8️⃣ Fried shrimp head—crispy like chips! 🦐 By the way, their ginger is cut and pickled in-house—pretty nice touch. 9️⃣ A trio of sashimi. I only remember the middle one was chutoro. The sauce was made with chili and a green sauce—spicy but not overwhelming. 🔟 - 1️⃣1️⃣ Were dishes my friend and I could barely handle… 🔟 Japanese Wagyu beef with miso sauce 1️⃣1️⃣ Japanese Kobe beef Extremely tasty, but after the Wagyu, we didn’t expect another round of Kobe! The Wagyu already felt like eating a pat of butter. We could only manage a few bites of the Kobe—such a shame to waste such premium ingredients. Finally: 1️⃣2️⃣ Japanese cold noodles made with beet. So refreshing—perfect after all that rich beef. This deserves five stars. Wouldn’t mind a bigger portion though, haha! Last but not least—Japanese shaved ice. We went with espresso flavor to cleanse the palate from the buttery Wagyu. The chef said the matcha red bean version is the most popular—will try that next time! 🍧 Have you been to Matsuhisa or tried an omakase that blew your mind?
